1. PSN Game Sharing Abilities Chopped Down to Size
I'll be up front about this and say that yes this did technically happen at the end of 2011, but that doesn't mean it didn't get a lot of attention during 2012. At the top of our list is the story of something that we all love: sharing. There are plenty of cases where we legally buy content and in a lot of cases once that transaction happens a lot of us feel that we do indeed have some kind of right to use that software as we please. In general, there are plenty of companies that have followed suit to this change to avoid frustration, but to the most resilient developers DRM is still a very harsh reality.

In the older days of the PlayStation Network, the game sharing feature allowed us to play our content on up to five activated consoles before we would have to purchase another. In general, this was really quite a fair system. Essentially it allowed many of us to legally allow family members to try out our games as long as they had our account info. To many it just made sense, but then again with a number like five it certainly became easy to abuse too.
At the end of 2011, Sony chopped that number down from five to two, and plenty of consumers weren't exactly happy about the change. As the original PlayStation Blog post turned into an all out war of name-calling, it was clear that loyal fans felt as though they had been dealt an injustice. In the present system, you can share games on two of each device. This technically does mean that if the game is playable on both PS3 and a portable than four devices could technically be linked, but in most cases we are now stuck to two. In Sony's defense, most people aren't going to have more than two of the same console, right?
Well that is it for 2012, and now we mist point our eyes to the future. Only time will tell what 2013 has for us, but many are saying that it just might be the year of the PS4. I'm certain that alone will keep us hanging on edge for the next 365 days when I'll be back to do this all over again. Thank you all for remaining dedicated to QJ throughout 2012. All the staff and writers here would like to wish you a happy and healthy New Year.
