The Good and Bad in Gamestop Sales |
Listed in: News Tags: GameStop, industry, sales
Whether you love them or hate them, Gamestop is undoubtedly one of the biggest game retailing stores in the entire world. While many of the most hardcore in the community often cringe at their ridiculous used game exchange rates, the fact is people are still coming in droves to get their games at the place they feel knows the industry best. While some unexpected losses did stand in the company's way, their overall performance was no real slouch for its third quarter.

If you want to look at the raw numbers, all of you real Gamestop haters will be pleased to know that the company lost $624.3 million in this section of their fiscal year. However don't start jumping up and down just yet. As reported by the company, these losses were primarily due to "international reporting segments" and "non-cash charges" within those markets. That being said, they hope to operate under a business as usual policy despite the fact that these impairment charges may bog them down for now.
If you take those fees out of the equation, the gaming giant still emerged victorious with a profit of $1.77 billion. This number is indeed down 8.9% from what we saw last year, but as the console market continues to mature less and less people are expected to be buying new games. In other news, digital and mobile sales surged upwards of thirty percent each accounting for $150 million of that overall margin. Overall, it looks like pretty decent times for Gamestop. If you were hoping these guys would be out of your life, you just might have to wait a little bit longer!

They're one of the few places nowadays where you can get an old game for a cheap price and still be able to return it, if it doesn't work(at least where I live)
I mean, Halo 3 is like $7.99 at Gamestop, while it is still $29.99 on Xbox Live...
