Watching the Team Bondi logo fizzle out when I start up LA Noire nowadays is a poignant reminder of how this company was taken for a spin when it came to a financial agreement with Rockstar Games.
Entering Administration last month, Team Bondi had to cut it's losses and turn in almost everything they had to simply pay off, and I do mean that sarcastically, 1.4 Million dollars to 40 different creditors. The payments had to be sold in assets, hardware and even the office space where Team Bondi was once harboured in Sydney, Australia.
There is very little silver lining with the situation as individuals who were working in programming, design, production and gameplay, as well as interns, were owed between $1600 and jut over $90000. It was reported even Studio Boss Brendan McNamara is owed $102000. And with the company going down the tubes and being liquidated, the staff will not be repaid any outstanding amount and the Australian Games Industry continues to crumble around everyone...
For those of you in Australia, the video game show Good Game recently ran an entire piece explaining the situation and even talked with a lot of people who worked at Team Bondi in the final days of the game company. There were reports, similar to those of the wives who's husbands were working on Red Dead Redemption back in 2009, accusations of employee's simply not being paid or insane deadlines and working times, such as working from 9 in the morning till after midnight.
It was simply a tragic tale and warning when it came to company dealings. Pay your employees, don't treat people like crap and remember a human can only work so hard...also don't set deadlines without factoring in delays, stolen code, promotional material and illness...just saying
