Capcom is trying to break new boundaries in the fighting game genre by adding another level of detail in the form of the "gem system" in Street Fighter X Tekken. These gems allow you to customize your character so that you can buff your character's weaknesses and build upon his or her strengths.

The game will come packaged with 57 gems, and the Special Edition will have even more. If you pre-order Street Fighter X Tekken, you'll have even more on top of that. Of the original 57 gems, 52 are Boost Gems and 5 are Assist Gems. Boost gems affect stats in defense, attack, vitality, speed, and cross gauge. Assist gems can be used in different combinations to boost your stats in different ways - like making moves easier to pull off, for instance.

You will also be able to activate certain gems in the middle of a fight if you meet certain conditions, which can really turn things around for you if things are looking grim.
