Square Enix: We Want a Final Fantasy every year |

I'm not a big fan of Final Fantasy. I'm not a big fan of JRPG's in general, but when I hear about people who like Final Fantasy, I turn off. My mind begins to shut down and my mental screensaveer starts up, which is Nyan Cat. But apparently, the more the merrier in the eyes of Squenix as they would love to make one every year.
I mean to be honest, if Call of Duty and Madden can do it, make a lot of money and be renowned, why not Final Fantasy? A lot of people have done comparisons with East and West style of gaming and marketing and while there are similairities here and there, genre's that sell well, release dates and consoles are quite differential between the US and Japan.
Yoshinori Kitase, the developer of the upcoming XIII-2 said that it took too long to get FFXIII to come out. He brought up the comparisons of Call of Duty, Battlefield and Assassin's Creed. All seem to work with a lot shorter turnaround and are done in 1-2 years. The games he mentioned are fairly panned by their users or give unsatisfying experiences. They're often short hours of gameplay, by people who only put so much creative input and (at worse) work on a new engine.
Final Fantasy, as I know from friends who won't be quiet about it, have mentioned that back in the day was quite rare. Even worse, if you didn't know how the series worked with international release dates. But Kitase is looking at it from a business perspective saying they "need to find the best way to keep their fans interested and attracted to the franchise", this is after they just finished making FFXIII-2 in just 18 months; this could be their perfect time to change.
If the Japanese industry is chasing money, let them chase money. I think Nintendo's recent falter has put everyone on shaky ground, but making little games will probably be their next focus, such as browser or iPhone development and moving away from handheld development, which is quite popular in Japan and sticking to smaller development teams making smaller games...time will tell, time will tell.

They should take it at their usual pace however slow it may be and concentrate on quality not quantity as a previous comment mentioned. Because form what i have heard (bear in mind this is simply what i've heard not what I personally think) in general most people think the final fantasy series sucks with the exception of 7, 9, 10 and 13.

Wake up already! Japan is lost trying to be “western”. Do your best, but stay focused on what makes a game great. You guys knew all about that, you created it! Videogames were nothing until you got into it! Now you think you need to imitate the “western style” to sell? Screw that!
