Square Enix has announced that it is currently “struggling” to regain its footing after taking a nasty financial lashing. Though the company is predicting more profits in the future, it’s still trying to get back on track after Sleeping Dogs apparently dive bombed into obscurity.

According to the company, “the increasingly difficult condition of the world-wide console game market” is making it quite difficult to keep the coffers lined. Strong performance from mobile applications are helping, but Square Enix is putting a lot of pressure on big titles like Dragon Quest VII and Tomb Raider to help push things back into the black in 2013.

We’ll just have to wait and see how things turn out. Are you planning to pick up any Square Enix releases this winter/spring, or are you waiting on a summer/fall release like Final Fantasy XIII: Lightning Returns?

Not surprised they have not released a good rpg in a very long time. There best games were made back during the era of the ps1. The last game I remember playing and enjoying from them, was Kingdom Hearts 1 for the ps2 still have fond memories of the game. After that in my eyes Square Enix stop making great games. Instead they started focusing more on how to maximize profits as a result there quality of games started to suffer.

They have got versus, type-0 and ffx hd the first 2 which were nearly completed and never released and ffx hd which everyone is waiting for it more that FF13-3. And also during the past years they tried to base themselves on non final fantasy titles cos they always think that they will fare better in the west but we are lacking the most important thing which is synonymous with Square Enix i.e. Final Fantasy

Last good Final Fantasy game I enjoyed was Final Fantasy 9 for ps1. In my eyes the whole Final Fantasy franchise started going down hill after that. Sadly Final Fantasy X was when Square Enix started moving a way from the roots of what made the Final Fantasy series so great. They started using the Final Fantasy series more as a way to generate company revenue then great Final Fantasy games. Regardless of what fans think I thought Final Fantasy X was bad and Final Fantasy X - 2 just horrible. Don't even get me started on all the problems with FF 13 and it's sequels, this iteration of the Final Fantasy series is just plain terrible in my eyes.

Quick thing mate, FFX was actually developed by Squaresoft, not Square Enix.

When Squaresoft merged with Enix we got Square Enix, and they've never really worked the same way as a company since. Whether or not you liked FFX, it was the last Final Fantasy game from the classic era. Personally, it's my fourth favourite, first being VI, second being VIII and third being VII.
