Square Enix hacked

Square Enix has put forward a statement that on December 12th they were hacked. Specifically the members service servers which is available to its customers in the US and Japan. The company went into lockdown or "temporary suspension" of their members area at 10pm PST on December 12th saying that the downtime would probably last "a few days" while they investigated the problem further.

In the statement, Squenix said they were assessing the "full extent" of the potential breach "to determine what data, if any, was compromised and will provide more details" whenever they could. They have said that so far that there has been some "personal information that may have been accessed," but they could confirm there "was no possibility of credit card information" that could be leaked from the incident, since the server they invaded "stores no credit card information"

Square Enix is added to the list of game companies that have been hacked this year. Including Codemasters, Sega and of course, Sony who have all been victims of people attacking their servers, why? People can only say to commit credit card or identity fraud for the time being, but to say for more sinister purposes could be a bit dangerous and ludicrous.
