Square Enix's previous fiscal year wasn't a very good one. In fact, it was quite bad for the company. After forecasting a one billion yen profit in February, the Final Fantasy maker has since amended it to a whopping 12 billion yen loss.

Company CEO Yoichi Wada explained that about 4.5 billion of the 12 billion expected loss comes from multiple cancelled projects as well as the revisions that had to be done to Final Fantasy XIV. Most of the 4.5 billion was related to domestic development.

Wada further said that their game development "has become weaker than expected." He attributed this to a lack of communication and problems in dividing labor between members of the technical staff.

The Square Enix CEO expects that it will take two to three years to revamp the system and turn things around. To help make up for the losses, Square Enix plans to dive further into social networking games and mobile phone apps. A billing platform is also being considered. They also plan to increase the number of their major brands to ten or so. Taking development time into account, these new brands will likely be seen within three to five years.

Well they should have released a Kingdom hearts 3 instead of wasting time on all these spin offs. Also FFvs13 is taking way to long.

Unfortunately, they can't really work on KH3 until FFvsXIII is finished, since that's what the proper Kingdom Hearts team is doing at the moment.

Seriously they didn't see this coming with releasing unfinished games and half-ass spin offs :-? . Just give fans what there looking for like Kingdom hearts 3 or Final Fantasy Versus XIII or maybe a decent remake of a good FF game like FFVI.

Quite the opposite, I'd imagine. From the sound of it, SE are saying "we done goofed, milking existing franchises can only take us so far."

Here's hoping the next major FF installment (not XIII-2) will see a return to the game's glory days (which XIII was admittedly close to doing, save for a few fatal flaws), here's hoping that Deus Ex lives up to the hype, and here's hoping we actually see some innovation out of this former beast of a company.

They should realize they need to make a huge improvements to there single player games. Last Square game I enjoyed was xenogears on ps2 but even though I enjoyed it they did sort of screw it up with changing the graphic and audio with each new chapter of the game sold in stores. As no one part 1, 2 or 3 were the same in regards to graphics and audio quality. Enjoyed part 1 best for graphics my self and Part two had the best audio for my cheap stereo. Over all the though I thought Squares best years were with the old cartridge Nintendo game days and ps1 in my opinion. I did not see much innovation from Square after the launch of the ps2 and still waiting for them to release a phenomenal ps3 game. So far what I have seen produced from Square for ps3 is mediocre in my opinion. Hopefully but not likely with there current track record Square will decide to make a block buster rpg like the old days, which made them such a great company! I loved Square Soft till they stopped producing amazing rpg's and decided to become a mediocre company that cared more about profits then making awesome rpg's.

You mean Xenosaga? That was namco bandai that made that trilogy , it had nothing to do with Xenogears saddly. Xenogears is my fav game.

yeah, haven't seen a good final fantasy game from square since FF9.
Kingdom Hearts is/was their only other good series. And they're just putting out DS/PSP/Phone games all the time... By the time KH3 comes out I won't have any idea wtf is going on anymore =/

What they REALLY need to do is give in and re-make Final Fantasy 7 for the PS3 to close the deal on some cold hard cash FAST....seriously they would make a boatload of cash with just ONE game ...INSTANTLY...who WOULDN'T buy it?!?!?!?

Couldn't agree more. FF7's greatness came from it's age. Spin off something new with the depth and clarity that you Square Enix had to put in your old games due to graphics rendering at the time. Don't just focus on one aspect. Give us a Story with marvelous music that adds to the atmosphere, give us a deep battle system that is engaging and compelling, and lastly give us someone to hate not because of what he's done but because of what he allowed himself to turn into.

NO! They'll fuck it up!

They just have to make an old school FF with an epic story and a rather simple battlesystem.
And let the player EXPLORE the world. Not being able to really explore much and the battleystem were the things that killed FF13 for me.

If they even touch the battle system ONE single bit and its some stupid action platform pull the trigger paradigm crap i am not buying it, i wont even take a look at it. because it will be too painful to see something like that ruined.

That's what happens when you go all power hungry and try to buy up devs, pretending to be a mammoth publisher for the masses and then neglect the quality of your own games. Leave the publishing to EA and Activision while you focus on making good titles, then we can talk :P

gather up the brilliant minds whom were responsible for the early FF games and conjure up something that will put the company back on the map. Somewhere along the way, SE went off on some crazy tangent and lost whatever made each of their games so full of depth and engaging. It seem as if they're focusing too much on the cover of the book and not enough on the pages.

The thing is, "early" isn't even all that early when you think about it. FF was fine up until XI and the numerous VII milking sessions spin-offs, which is when things started going awry.

I'm not sure whether you were being sarcastic or not, but yes; it's like a chip shop that refuses to change its oil just to increase its profit margin.

eh.. FFX was crap too (I can still hear the aweful voice-acting... and the story was weak too).

I don't understand why they hate a normal round-based battlesystem. Every other system they tried just felt aweful and forced on the series.

People are SCREAMING for a FF7 remake, and what battlesystem did it have? - Round-based. So it's not like everyone hates that kind of system....

Turning failed MMOs into free-to-play seems to be bringing in a lot of profit or all the various non-WoW substitutes so I see no reason they can't do the same for FFXI and FFXIV. Bringing out an old 3D remake will help them reconnect to their lost fanbase, while making a new Tactics should further enforce this trust. A new Kingdom Hearts would be nice, but I want to see some progress with their near and dear IP's before they go tapping into fragile territory.

nah, they better go back to being SQUARESOFT :P when they became squareenix most of their games lost appeal and got boring, unlike the original squaresoft they made games simple but fun to play, addicting and entertaining.

It's simple ppl. I have grown up a rpg squaresoft not enix fan. Enix is a great company as well though but here lies the problem you can't expect the same quality level games when those producers composers programmers etc… aren't working with the company anymore and have retired. If SE reads this take my advice bring back what made you the world leader to begin with and stop trying to evolve to the gaming world today. Instead make the gaming world adapt to you!!! Simply put remember these: secret of mana, secret of evermore, FF2-9, Xenogears, and above all Chrono Trigger…once you bring those back remade on xbl and psn and get back on that mindtrack you will once again reign supreme I wouldn't take these wise words lightly. Thank you for many years of greatness and here's to many more to come!

How about to fix their company they stop making shitty games? Bring back the turn based ATB. Bring back character development that isnt linear(crystari um? you cannot deviate off the path unless you switch classes).

FF13 was a game that was both boring to play, made you feel closed in, and you had to be really quick switching paradigms to win. Its not that i couldnt switch quickly, i just didnt want to, im playing an RPG, leave the twitch for a mini game.

When i want a good action game ill play COD but give me back my RPGs. I want a world map and turn based ATB. I do not want a set role for my party members. GIVE ME BACK FINAL FANTASY.
