Sorry Folks, No Metal Gear Solid 5

You may remember hearing the distant sound of cheers and trumpets last week as the entire Internet, QJ included, rose to its feet to celebrate the official announcement of Metal Gear Solid 5. The game, which had been in rumor form for years, was confirmed by Official PlayStation Magazine UK, or at least it seemed like the game was confirmed.

Sadly for all of your MGS fans, it looks like the magazine may have slightly (or greatly) exaggerated the existence of Metal Gear Solid 5, but was content to let the story ride as hype built for its new issue.

Nearly every gaming news site ran with the story, based entirely on the cover blurb from the issue. But since no one had access to the article, one very important detail was lost in the shuffle: they’re not actually working on MGS 5 at all.

The magazine promised “Metal Gear Solid 5 details” on its cover, which it supposedly gleaned from its interview with Metal Gear producer Hideo Kojima. Of course, the actual quote says something a little different:

“I think we’ll probably have to make it [MGS5] at some point, but what that will be, we have no idea. As far as my involvement in the project is concerned, it probably won’t be as much as it was with MGS1--maybe I can do just one stage! For MGS1 I made the maps myself, laid out the enemy routes myself, did everything hands-on--that level I can’t do again.”

Nothing about that quote indicates that MGS5 is in development. All it indicates is that they’ve considered doing a new Metal Gear Solid game, but they currently have no clue what to do with it. That’s a far cry from “details.” The game will probably be made eventually, but the information on the magazine’s cover is slanted at best and a fabrication at worst.

Ridiculous. Sorry for the wrong information folks, and shame on the magazine for purposefully duping the gaming populace.

This is utter bollocks. The writer of this is twisting the truth just as much as OPM might have been. Don't say 'shame on them', and don't a journelistic moron. The actual truth is, no it is not in development, but it will likely be made. OPM never said MGS5 was in the work, its just everyones high hopes naturally assuming so when seeing their issue cover. You however have baltently lied by saying 'No MGS5'. Its unknown, stop trying to make a story from nothing, just because its not yet in development doesn't mean it isn't happening, this is just a cynical and hypocritical post which should be removed.

talk to the guy yourselves then you can make a statement about MGS5 being in development, they didnt say that you just assumed, MGS5 DETAILS, could mean "we found out MGS5 has been canceled", but they had their own source, and they where your source, its a silly game of chinese whispers

Well at least it isn't "lol no MGS5 will never happen". As long as it comes sometime in the not too distant future, all is right in the universe.

But yeah as far as this article snafu goes, that's pretty F-ed up. If I gave a damn about the publisher I'd drop it in a second. But I don't, so I can't! Damn.

that's nonsense anyway, Kojima says "I'm not having anything to do with MGS anymore" then down the line he's listed as director

The problem is not the magazines its people jumping the gun, details of somthing can be that its been canceled nowhere on the cover did it say MGS5 CONFIRMED, websites should get their own stories then they cant get the wrong end of the stick

and they did provide details.....that hideo isnt going to be as involved in MGS5's creation regardless of when it is made, i class that as "details",

websites should admit to their mistakes or stop jumping the gun and trying to steal mazines exclusives before they publish the magazine

Well thats just unfortunate, i was really excited about this and while i believe the majority of the blame of this is on me for assuming that the details were about a future MGS5 i don't think the magazine is faultless either.

when you put something like 'Metal Gear Solid 5 details' on the cover it is inferred by most readers that MGS5 is coming out and details are inside, yet at the same time there was nothing that really implied that.

oh well at least its not truly a lost cause, there's still a possibility of it coming out in the future and i guess thats alright for now
