Sony's Japan relief drive yields US$ 1.3 million

Your efforts are not going to waste, folks! Sony Computer Entertainment has now revealed today that their Great East Japan Earthquake relief effort launched via the PlayStation Network is going really well, to the tune of US$ 1.3 million.

The effort was launched immediately after a magnitude 9 quake struck Japan, resulting to a tsunami, furthering the destruction. It was launched in North America and Europe on March 19th, while Japan and the rest of Asia got to do their share starting March 24th.

The donations poured in, ringing up the cash registry to a whopping US$ 1.318 million (JPY 109.6 million). As promised, the whole amount, all the way to the last centavo, will be given to the relief and recovery efforts for those communities hit by the disasters. This will be coursed through the American Red Cross, among others.

Kaz Hirai, in behalf of Sony, extends his thanks to all their loyal customers who helped out in this time of need. "We would like to extend our deepest sympathies to those affected by the Great East Japan Earthquake. While we continue to make every effort to help the recovery of the affected communities in the region, I would like to express our gratitute to every single PlayStation user across the world who made a contribution to the effort."
