Sony slapped with a new class-action suit |
Listed in: News, PlayStation Network Tags: lawsuit, PlayStation Network, Sony
A recent court filing have accused the company of laying off its security staff shortly before the massive PSN breach.

According to a lawsuit obtained by Reuters, Sony laid off a number of its employees responsible for network security two weeks before the attack. The proposed class action suit also claimed that the company "spent lavishly on security to protect its own corporate information, while failing to do the same for its customers' data."
The lawsuit was filed earlier this week in the San Diego federal court. Citing a confidential witness, the proposed class action claims that Sony "knew it was at increased risk of attack because it had experienced prior, smaller breaches." But the company still proceeded in laying off "a substantial percentage" of its Sony Online Entertainment staff, including "a number" of employees in its Network Operations Center, which serves as the frontline "for preparing for, and responding to, security breaches," the lawsuit said.
The filing also claims that Sony installed "appropriate firewalls and other security measures to protect its own sensitive data, but chose not to do the same for customer data."
The case was filed by Felix and Jimmy Cortorreal and Jacques Daoud Jr on behalf of themselves and all other similarly affected parties. This is the third lawsuit filed against Sony concerning the recent PSN attack that crippled the online service.

Whether it's Sony, former employees or hacker groups to blame the fact remains that selfishness and lack of concern for others was at the root of the psn attacks.
