Sony presscon reveals "goodwill gesture"

Sony's presser happening today had the company handing out helpful notes to those in attendance. The note should be helpful, literally, because it states the reparation measures that the company is handing out to the consumers in light of the major trouble that the PSN got into.

Among the compensation items listed are free downloads of content, 30 days of free PlayStation Plus access for both new and existing members, and 30 days worth of free service in Qriocity.

The press conference has yet to officially begin, with Kazuo Hirai set to take the stage to talk more about the steps they are currently taking in finally putting a solution to this long-running issue.

The note also reassures folks that the PlayStation Network should get back online "soon". We're keeping our eyes peeled out for more on this.

So you think a few free demo's and other crap is a fair trade for the identity that is stolen from you and sold on hackers forums?

People still think that they are save because they havent put cc info in their account, but your personal info is what they are after.

This definately doesnt make me happy.

What would make me happy is Sony saying it was all a late aprils fools joke and there has happened nothing, THAT, sir, would make me happy.

Everything else is just sad..

I think what's worse are those who don't know better. The info that may have been stolen can likely be found on any number of sites. Especially if you're part of those stupid social networking sites. They don't have social security numbers or the card security codes so I think this is all getting exaggerated. Not that it should have happened, don't get me wrong.

The data that was stolen is no more than you can find in the public domian if you look hard enough.

Granted if cc information was stolen thats slightly diffrent but theres still no actuall evidence to actually suggest thats even the case.

that most of the identity information that was taken can be found with a little due diligence. Do you have a Facebook account? Any other social media accounts? Do you have an address that is listed in the phone book or post on forums? Did you realise that Epsilon was hacked a month or so ago? Companies like Best Buy use this service for emailing consumers. If you have bought from any number of online retailers some of your info is probably in questionable hands.

PSN will be back soon, cannot wait to bang heads in Mortal Kombat, got to play it for 2 hrs online before network went out and im going crazy. On a side note, sony is gonna bring some good things to its faithful members, all you posers screaming bloody murder and crying about how Sony always shits on its fanbase can go take a headlong leap into a moving train, that way your stupid brains is the first thing to go. In other news, I predict Sony might have some pleasant surprises in store for psn members, is it to high of a hope for cross game chat?? Only time will tell, but PSN is not dead, it will be back with a better improved version and xbox will have to sit on the sidelines.... again!!!.

And to all you guys talking about credit card theft, I am still not buying that they kept all their credit card info in one place, unencrypted (or very little encryption), and just let someone waltz away with it.

I only use PSN cards for adding credit in case of this type of situation anyway.

oh and the personal information, all they got was my name, email and address... anyone with half a brain can find that out that info about me a lot easier then hacking a whole bunch of servers.

I don't even input my real age into these type of sign-up services, as I am over the "mature rating" age I don't see why they need to know my specific age.

I can't help but notice that they're offering 30 days of free PS+ to users, but that the PSN store may be down until the end of the month. Since most of the benefit of having a PS+ account seems to involve free downloads of games and whatnot, I have to admit that I'm kind of skeptical about exactly how beneficial this will be to people. Just my 2 cents though
