Sony Prepped for Big Loss |
Listed in: News Tags: Kaz Hirai, Sony
Sony is preparing investors for a pretty big chunk of bad news this morning, adjusting its loss predictions from the previously thought £1.7 billion to £4 billion. If you’re awesome at math like me, you probably figured out that these increased figures represent more than double the losses the company was expecting to take this fiscal year—a pretty rough report indeed.

We’ve talked about companies and loss reporting before, but it’s worth noting again that reported losses do not mean that Sony is losing money, just that it made less money this fiscal year when compared to the one before it. £4 billion less, in fact. The losses stem from several problems faced by Sony, but are predominantly the result of the company losing enormous US tax credits due to its inability to reverse its financial fortune.
According to Edge, this marks the fifth year in a row of big losses at Sony, and the worst year for the company in the last decade. Kaz Hirai, who has been the company’s CEO for what seems like ten minutes, is rumored to be prepping another announcement in the face of this bad financial news—one that involves the laying off of 10,000 Sony employees worldwide.
Sony is a big company, so it’s important not to draw gaming conclusions about the bad news. All we know for the moment is that Sony as a whole isn’t doing too great, and things aren’t looking good for the future.
Did you pick up any non-gaming Sony products this year?

They removed ONE thing. Linux. GET THE FUCK OVER IT ALREADY. PS2 compat. doesn't count as they took out actual hardware which meant the PS3 became cheaper. How many people honestly bought a PS3 to use Linux and/or play OLD PS2 games? I mean really?
And the online pass wasn't Sony. it was the games publishers pissing and moaning about losing "potential" money from used games sales.
Stop knocking on Sony for christ's sake and F**k off back to Microsoft or Nintendo.

All the kids will go out and buy Vita's and wank over the thing all day, the more mature gamers who happen to make up a large percentage of buyers have learned a lesson and the future of gaming isn't going to be with a Sony product i'm afraid.
Locked content, online passes, charging for on disk DLC? Nails ..... coffins, well done to everyone who continues to support these tactics so they keep getting away with it.
Idiots!!!
