Sony has reported a loss of $45 million for the second quarter from being unable to generate sales for the PS3, PS2 and PSP to go along with lackluster gaming sales. Less than three million PS3 and PS2 consoles sold combined in the last financial quarter. Last year at this time more than 3 million sold.

The PSP and PS Vita did not fare much better only selling less than 1.5 million combined units. Those numbers are only slightly down from last year’s inventory. Sony is keeping a lid though on official PS Vita sales.
Sony in all has reported a 200 million euro loss. They have lowered expectations on console sales especially since their video game sales for their consoles have dipped by more than seven million.
Since the beginning of the year video game companies and developers have experienced extremely sluggish sales. This is due in part to gamer conversion to mobile social gaming platforms and online gaming.
Sony is not losing heart though. They plan to rebound later this year with the releases of Wonderbook, Little Big Planet and Playstation All-Stars: Battle Royale.
