Sony: No timeline for PSN fix yet

Sony's PlayStation Network has been down for five days now. We've been receiving sporadic updates from Sony on how the repair process is progressing, but sadly the latest news from the company does not bode well.

Patrick Seybold, SCEA's director of corporate communications and social media, has posted the following on the US PlayStation blog:

I know you are waiting for additional information on when PlayStation Network and Qriocity services will be online. Unfortunately, I don’t have an update or timeframe to share at this point in time.

As we previously noted, this is a time intensive process and we’re working to get them back online quickly. We’ll keep you updated with information as it becomes available. We once again thank you for your patience.

With this, don't be surprised if the outage stretches out to a week or so. Just keep your fingers crossed and hope Sony manages to fix this issue pronto.

This is taking longer and longer. Although I hope that as they are fixing this they are also taking the time to improve connections, and other bugs. And no Microsoft this is not making you look good. It just makes PSN gamers appreciate that they aren't paying anything for an online service. If I had been paying $55 dollars, and then this had happened, I would have been really pissed.

No offense intended, just my point of view. Xbox 360 does have awesome tiles coming this year (Gears of War 3).

This is a stupid idea but... What if Microsoft hacked PSN to make sure their "Kinect World Record" could be accomplished this weekend? Just an idea again. No offense Xbox 360 Gamers.

As if the PS3 community was something to be missed anyways.

Besides what exclusive games is the ps3 gonna get that would MAKE it worth keeping?
1) i dont use Blu-ray, my PC is for that
2) RPGs are my thing
3) No megaman legends. gonna be for 3ds
4) PSN can be taken down by hackers without much problem.
5) Nothing GREAT coming out till 4Q 2011

Oh yeah, because online completely defines the reason for owning a GAMING, let me say it again, GAMING console.

what are some of the games you will pick up?
Halo
Gears
COD
Battlefield
Rockband

All those games (excluding RB) SUCK after beating the campains and where you move to online play. Besides God of war, there isnt that many great Single player games, regardless of being on 360 or PS3.

Most games are online heavy.
Ps3 has Heavy rain, MGS4 and uncharted. but those games are play once and have almost no replay value.

PSN security really sucks, and their recovery measures sucks even more. It's obvious they over relied on the PS3 software to maintain security. Ever since people started jailbreaking, everything has fallen down.

This is pretty rediculous.

I hope its up before Tuesday, and if it is or it isn't, I think Sony should give every PSN User a Free download/Funds of up to 5-10 USD.

Not saying they give out money at random, I just think they should pick a price point between 5-10 USD and give that amount to every PSN ID user, even if they don't have a PS3 and just a PSN ID to log in to the PlayStation WebSite.

Sony intentionally brought PSN down because the said 'external intrusion' had potentially given the hacker(s) responsible access to information such as consumers' credit cards. At this point they are trying to rebuild PSN so the information isn't left about like it seems, or seemed, to be. This is really all Sony deserve for over-relying on the security of the platform and not doing much work on PSN itself. That said, I hope PSN is back online soon.

IMO 70%, I think when Sony rolls out the new PSN, there is going to be a fee involved, whether its registration fee or monthly fee. Sony already hinted this when they rolled out the new user agreement couple of months back. This all seems too much of a coincidence.

In the end the consumers pay the price.

Sony is a struggling magician, each he or she does a magic trick, it turns to shit. And the PSN was one trick that has been grounded to the dirt. Sony's stupidity lead to this problem anyway. It's their fault, not the hacker. I mean sure, you can blame the hacker for skull-fucking the PSN, but think about it for a minute. If it wasn't for all that crap they try to thow into the PS3 like the Other OS feature with was really irrelevent, then none of this would of happened.

If Sony didn't try to show off like some highschool kid showing how fly he is with his new clothes, then hackers wouldn't be on Sony top. We all know Sony has done some syupid shit over the past year. But this one surely made them shot themselves in the foot. It is kind of sad that we rely on their network so much.

I wish many times that we can go back to the old days. Just buy any game that works properly out the door without relying on download patches to fix it. Make long lasting games that are offline and local multiplayer that works and is actually fun. Does anyone remember those days. This is a good example of why the "cloud" is not a good idea. Think if this was On Live.

I agree with both of you but still GUNBEHINDTHESUN has a point with the patches. It's rare this day to find a single game that doesn't need to be patched on day 1.

As for the network, I never rely on it for picking games. I always go for the games that are fun offline first, online centric games are low on my priority list.
