Sony: Mobile games not a threat |

In a recent interview Trenton said that he was not afraid of any of the mobile platforms already available. The thing is at the moment Sony is expanding their Tablet and Mobile devices, but when regarding the Vita, I would be mildly worried.
The interview with McLeans, a Canadian news site asked a pretty hard hitting question about "razor blade modelling" for the Vita, where the hardware would be cheap but the software would push the hardware. Trenton gave the good old Sony answer of them being invested in technology and that the $249 price tag and the promise that it will "get better in terms of the product offering."
McLeans also asked about the pricing wars after the initial price of the PS3 was through the roof ($599), Trenton said that it was "a steep hill to climb for [Sony and their consumers]" but said it paid off in the end. He probably means financially and exploiting first-gen players. Trenton defended the console saying that if you bought it at it's original price, "six years later you still have a state-of-the-art device. If you got it a little later in the game you're still getting state of the art technology for $249"
In regards to the console life cycle and the inital quotes from Sony saying the PS3 could last a decade, Trenton said that game life cycles are getting longer and longer and that the PS1 had a ten year life cycle, PS2 is still going, even in it's 12th year, which is and no doubt will be helped by digital distribution with the PS3.
The entire interview with Trenton is fascinating and at least a bit honest and objective, especially when he asks about the Wii U and other big moibile platforms.
What do you think about Sony's chances in the market in 2012?

Maybe I should because mine is still running strong.

My launch 60GB PS3 is still going. Granted, the fan sounds like a hoover on steroids but hey, it's still going :)

Thing is, cellphone apps are like the lottery, for every one that makes it, there are millions that are rejected. Not to mention that you are selling it for a freaking DOLLAR.
Mobile games are nothing like console games and are different groups of people, its far more financially feasible to make console games due to the higher likelihood of the consumer base purchasing the software at a higher price than hoping one of your dozens of $1 games actually gets noticed.
Its like trying to make Sex and the City appeal to young men by adding explosions and cop chase scenes. (yes, I got that one from Robot Chicken)
