Sony looking to cut PS3 price in the UK

Wedbush Morgan analyst, Michael Pachter, did say that the consoles are due for a price cut pretty soon, and it looks like he was right, at least for the PS3.

"PS3 has taken longer than PS2 to establish itself simply because of the cost of the product," said SCEE UK chief Ray Maguire on the latest issue of OPM UK. "It's been a challenge for us to get the costs down over the years. The retail price has been more than we would have liked... Hopefully the price might still come down."

Despite the intentions of reducing the price, Maguire maintains that the system is still evolving thanks to the firmware updates. ""It gets adopted, then it gets redeveloped, so you keep on upgrading everything as you go along. I think that's part of its success and the longevity of it."

"I did think we were taking a big risk in PS3 by making it so heavy featured," he added. "As it turned out, I now think it was a stroke of genius, because it's given PS3 the ability to go on year after year."

well, i'm just waiting for GeoHotz to win, we all know it's gonna happen, or else there'd be a hell of an uproar... even if the difference between a phone and the ps3 is gonna get down to all the technicallity shit, we all know what the premis is; we bought the product, we own it, we should be allowed to do anything we want to it as long as we aren't MAKING MONEY OFF IT. (this might not be the place to rant about jailbreaks but anyways...) It's not like GeoHotz or any of the other hackers are SELLING the edited or copied code; so they aren't breaking any COPYRIGHTS.

ya, because Geohotz has been winning everything up to now [/sarcasm]. Hopefully Geohotz loses so he can be put in his place and so the gaming industry can progress instead of being ruined by nerds and their hacking and piracy... STEALING is also a crime...

Evolve?

Keep dreaming. If it weren't for compatibility updates for newer games I wouldn't notice anything different from 3.60 to the older, earlier updates.

Frankly I would say the PS3 is devolving with the removal of certain features. I thought that Sony was advertising that the PS3 was to be the next big thing when it comes to bringing features to consoles before it was released. Well you know what they say about false advertising...
