Sony dishes out Nintendo hate, sounds ridiculous in process

In an interview with Gamasutra, Sony's Jack Tretton dishes out some Nintendo hate, and sounds completely ridiculous in the process.

"[Microsoft and Nintendo] are starting to run out of steam now in terms of continuing to be relevant in 2011 and beyond," Tretton said, completely ignoring Nintendo's recently released handheld and Microsoft's popular Kinect. "I mean, you've gotta be kidding me. Why would I buy a gaming system without a hard drive in it? How does this thing scale?"

He continued, seeming to forget about Sony's PlayStation Move, "motion gaming is cute, but if I can only wave my arms six inches, how does this really feel like I'm doing true accurate motion gaming?"

"[Nintendo's portables are a] great babysitting tool, [but] no self-respecting 20-something is going to be sitting on an airplane with one of those," he finished. "He's too old for that."

On that vein, no self-respecting gamer of any age would buy a PSP, considering the complete lack of quality games on the system. But, alas, let the fanboy wars begin!

Me Thinks Jack had a little too much drinky drinky the night before :P

Also, I think the motion control comment was aimed at nintendo... when you literally never need to move more than 6 inches... so it's not an invalid claim... but again... Jack seemed drunk :P

You can't deny that there is a limited of good games on PSP. I own both a DS and PSP and I have to say the DS has a greater library of games, even though I prefer my PSP.

Oh yeah, the PSP has such a sleek design (other than the terrible nub) but its library is nowhere as great as the DS.

When you say great you mean amount, correct? The DS has a lot of crap games. I find only about 10% to 20% worth anything where as the PSP I find roughly 40% to 60% worth owning. I have some PSP game which I have enjoyed but I have been spending a lot of my money on the PS3. I wish I was a very rich and had a lot of time on my hands to enjoy all of these great games.

years ago the PSP has limited good games but that was years ago, right now PSP has a huge library of great games, 2 God of war games, The 3rd Birthday, Monster Hunter, Persona 3, Metal Gear, Tekken 6 and many more depending on what types of games you like.

Plus these games not only contain hours of great gameplay, they are also good on graphics/storyline which adds up to the entertainment the PSP delivers aside from being able to play movies and mp3 as well.

Not saying PSP is better, I just don't think it's fair to say that it only has very limited number of good games. I also own a DS, I'd say both have their fair share of great games.

Just look at the previous generation I had a ps2 and was never planning on getting an xbox but the ps3 coming out later influenced my purchase. Now that the xbox has more influence just look how much it is reference now, when before if someone mention a system it was always playstation.

So after.. what, 4 years of almost no relevance, Sony might actually come out on top?

God damn, if that was my idea of success, I'd be incapable of failure. Win 1 out of 5 and you're awesome!

Also, the PSP outsold the /DS/, not the 3DS, not by a long shot. You should pay attention to facts sometime. (Also, I love my PSP, but facts are, DS has outsold PSP about 2:1 in their lifespan.)

sigh, fanboys, facts, figures and logic just confuse them.

He's saying that it doesn't work if it's not accurate, while the Playstation Move is 3 times more accurate on the PS3.
Duh. How do you still not understand?

If I said I don't like slow cars, and I have a fast car, you can't tell me that I don't like any cars, because I don't like slow cars. That implies that I see my car as fast.

Carl B, while I sometimes like your articles because they are informative, I have to say that you're acting like a pompous prick right now. Not only do you alienate your audience with these ridiculous articles, you read the reviews of your work and you degrade those who actually are trying to help you!! Not only that, but you do not take the help at all!
You are some punk. Your articles seldom are meaningful and you spam in your own comment section questions for the readers that have very little to nothing to do with the original article!
You degrade readers for what? The Lulz of it?? Or are you making fun of him because you effectively wasted his time in reading something? Or are you making fun of him because he took his own time to critique your article!
I don't think I can say enough about how crummy Qj.net has turned! Resorting to not only degradation of viewers, but after the whole incident with the multiple pages? You're very professional for driving away the company you represents consumers!
Even though we pay nothing to use this site, that doesn't mean we are nothing. We are people too, and I don't take kindly to your comments that you use to make yourself out to be some higher being. You need to stop commenting if you're not constructive, if you're gonna keep spamming, or you're just plain rude.
Yes, keeping opinions out of articles is good, and even if it was bad, did you have to retort the way you did to RavenSPe?? No. that's why you keep getting such low ratings on your comments, because you simply are unprofessional.
I hope whenever you try to find another job down the road, that the people check out this article and see what you do constantly. It's very representative. Not that you're higher up, but that you're so full of yourself.
Of course, I have a feeling that I may get temporarily banned for this, but it's something that you need to know and if it continues, you can be I will be getting your superiors involved and they will do something about your immaturity levels.

I fucking replied to the exact post!!
"Says the commenter, to the paid writer..."

So, you're saying his opinion doesn't matter because you get paid for what you do. Even though your pay indirectly comes from the commenter and re-visiting people. You cannot simply say that you will disregard what someone has to say because you see yourself at a higher field than they are.
You just ignore facts and censor your own comments whenever you read them. They are rude and arrogant. How come you didn't reply back with this same message of, "Says the commenter, to the paid writer..." to everyone else complaining of your bias in your article? I would love to see an answer to that.
