Sony confirms ICO dev leaving

It's a sad day when a great game designer leaves a company, especially someone as talented and unique as Fumito Udea. The creator of Shadow of the Collosus and Ico is leaving Sony after fourteen years with the company. Rumours began circulating earlier this month followed by Yoshifusa Hayama, the executive producer of Ueda's upcoming game, The Last Guardian.

People thought the possibility of Guardian getting made was up in the air with Ueda's resignation. Gamasutra later confirmed Ueda resigning but revealed that he was committed to completeing the project. Ueda's game was first revealed in May of 2009 but information on the game has been a slow process which was not to uncommon for Ueda's game.

Ueda says his decision comes from wanting to work on more personal projects. Whether this means smaller games or more games I'm just glad he's still working.

It's a matter of opinion though, and the point is... if all these professional developers suddenly ceased to exist, there would be no inspiration to become succesful.

This isn't about fanboys as the other guy said, its about respect for the work these people do, its unique. For those saying "who gives a shit"... you took the time to tell everyone, so you obviously do "give a shit".

Minecraft is a MMORPG so saying it's good to kill 5 minutes is as absurd as saying WoW is good for killing 5 minutes. The reason why it can run in the browser (most prefer the executable) is because it uses Java, which is portable yet much more powerful than Flash.

You should give more credit to independent developers. The classic retro games were made by teams of a few people and yet they are still considered great compared to modern games that were created by a hundred people. Originality is more important than graphics.

Yes, that was my point about Ico and SOTC. The gameplay from these two games was a first. Although the graphics were great at the time... the genre is unique.

Haven't heard minecraft being called an MMORPG before, that is a first for me. Typically in a roll playing game you train your character which has a role. When i say minecraft is a 5minute game, i'm stating that there is no objective. I do agree that graphics do not matter when there is a fantastic state of play, but without the gameplay to keep you hooked, there's nothing special.
