Another big blow to the second hand market. Following in the heels of Resistance 3, Sony Computer Entertainment America has confirmed today that they are not only implementing their PSN Pass initiative to Uncharted 3: Drake's Deception, they are also planning to implement the scheme for all of its upcoming self-published titles.

"Online Pass will be incorporated into Uncharted 3 and future Sony Computer Entertainment Worldwide Studios (SCE WWS) games with online functionality. We will provide further information in the future," a SCEA representative told Destructoid.

First revealed last July, the PSN Pass is a "game-specific program" that uses a single registration key that will grant you full online access to applicable games. This means that anyone who will be picking a used copy of Nathan Drake's latest adventure or future Sony-published titles will have to pay some extra bucks to get the full multiplayer components.

Now I'll have no choice but to wait and buy when their dirt cheap rather than new releases. Only way I can justify the purchase rather than boycotting them entirely.

:-)

Exactly as I do myself.
My game library consists of mainly re-used titles only a few NEW and those I bought several months/a year or so after release because I waited for the re-release that included all the DLC & additional content that they tried to 'Rip U Off' beforehand.

SALUTE..

Hmm, I wonder, what if you and lets say your brother use the same ps3 but different psn accounts.. Does that mean I would have to purchase two copies? Sony, so sad you've turn into this... Good thing the only first party game i play is GoW, and i dont need online for that.

after litle thinking i have a sad nes for u guys ...

This will be standar with all ps3 games , and they chosen the right time to introduce it , of course none of us cant hold back from playing UC3 or BF3 online , so after most gamers will understand this , PASS will a industry standard .

wich means fags kingdom and the killing of HC community

ITS soond very bad , i feel sorry for many who spent their money making huge collections of retail games.

Just when hackers stop attacking $ONY

Speak for yourself. I have no intention of buying UC3 now, and if I do, it'll definitely be used instead of new and I'll just live without the online part.

One more reason I'll never buy another Sony console.

If this means im saving $10-$20 on games that i don't care for the online feature then its fine with me. I just wish i didn't have to buy a second hand game to do so.

This is a single player game for the most part, no big loss. Those games based around multiplayer, well all you have to do is wait for a bargain bin copy instead. I shop only when games are discounted anyway, nobody can find a way make me pay more than needed.

Actually maybe we can abuse this. If we don't care about online perhaps we can sell our codes as instant rebates.

As long as it does not effect off line single player gaming I don't really care.

Yep. The video game industry and Sony in particular are pulling a lot of stupid moves, screwing over their customers, and just generally making their products worth less while costing the same. And the reason they can get away with it? Because so many people like you don't care unless it affects you directly. All they have to do is make sure they only piss off a few people at a time and they can get away with anything. The whole freakin' game industry is going to crap because idiots keep buying their games.

How are they screwing over their customers? By not allowing Gamestop to gauge customers?

Nex step could be a GPS rdif activation , say good bye to your privacy .

i will but UC3 an dplay online but what about how i can sell it without pass ,

if they want to sell games with pass so retail price should be half , not full price + extra money

I dont mind.I always have paid full price for half or most o f my games and I still love them all and felt they were worth the price. If the game is good enough why not pay normal price for it.Also, it couldnt possibly be that much more for the pass via buying a used game, unless of coarse it ends up being enough to then = full price. All in all sony usually puts out quality stuff and they try not to make many mistakes and considering we play online for free while 360 owners have to pay monthly we still got it pretty easy.

And the number of Sony titles I own in the future has gone down. Good thing I don't play online much.

I am fine with this. I don't buy many games as it is as I use Gamefly. For the very few games that I actually want to play online, I will pay the $10 or $15(whatever it is). Most of the high profile games I buy new anyway.
