There's usually nothing special with headsets, but with Sony's new accessory, they would like to beg to differ. Sony announced that they are coming out with a 3D headset, which, according to them, should be a "massive game-changer".

3dheadset_sonyThe said 3D headset, dubbed as the HMZ-T1 Personal 3D Viewer, will feature a dual 1280x720 0.7-inch OLED panels designed over each eye. For the sounds, Sony has built in a 5.1 surround sound headphones.

Said Sony in hteir official statement: "Packed with groundbreaking technology and fitting easily around your eyes and ears, the Personal 3D Viewer is set to revolutionize the way you experience games and movies forever.

You'll soon be able to immerse yourself completely in a private world of entertainment. Slipping the straps of the device around your hear, you'll feel as though you're sat in your own personal cinema."

It's not going to be too much of a hassle to as all you need is to plug it using an HDMI cable, and voila, you'll get to play your 3D games and movies already. The controls are also built-in the headset making it that much easier to adjust the volume and settings according to your preference.

For now, though, the device is confirmed only for Japan, to release on November 11, 2011, priced at JPY 60,000. As to whether they'll come out with it to other regions, we've yet to find out.

Back in May, Sony also launched a wireless stereo headset for the PS3. Undoubtedly, this 3D Personal Viewer ups the ante to how you enjoy your PS3.

Definitely very cool, I might buy one if I had that type of disposable cash. Till then I'll stick to my 55" LED 3DTV. This would be great though to be bundled with a screen-less Vita, I would definitely go for that, though because the Vita relies so much on it's touch screens it would have to be a new portable system.

well, technically "The World" refers to the universe shared in most of the .hack series/games. Maybe he meant that .hack//sign is what sticks in his mind the most?

i think its a thing that its" only seeing to believe", i saw a similar product that says "100"inch" screen, 100" screen like movie theater, far away, so what i saw was a private business card screen size emulated on the glasses and looks that its far away, but who knows sony s might really be an amazing thing...see it to believe it..

lololol, back in the article:
"Sony is unsure of Nintendo's 3D strategy"
I commented that they would actually make this and charge you a lot.

Anyway, yeah like that one comment, I too hope they will make "The World".
Hopefully it doesn't cause comas though....

Guess this is why it's only coming out in Japan, no one outside it can afford it. They have money to burn on stupid brand name bags and shit.

You just know some idiot is going to try and use this on the bus, getting robbed of other belongings... and not realise it until hours afterwards.

It's a headset. There'll be compatible portable equipment sooner or later.

I somehow doubt that. Why would you have 5 speakers on a headset. Wouldn't it be uncomfortable having that centre one sitting on your nose? Where do they keep the sub-woofer?
5.1 is there to mean something.
I expect it is more: simulated surround sound.

'Revolutionary' as in just taking something that already existed and throwing "Sony" on it?

No 'Revolutionary' as in it's a consumer aimed 720p, 3D HMD.

What's not shown on here is the control unit the HMD connects to, it's about the size of an old VHS player, so forget portability. This ain't something anyone will be using on the bus for quite sometime.

Personally I can't wait for this to be released, if it works with NVIDIA's 3DTV Play then it'll be epic! Killzone 3 on this with the Sharpshooter WOW!!!!!

I always wanted to dress up like Commander La Forge. In the 24th century, i'll be able to pick up 3 for 99 cents at the dollar store. HDMI? What's that?

This is something I've wondered why Sony or Microsoft havent already made. I've been thinking it for at least 11 or 12 years now.. we've had TV Glasses a long time, and the newer ones work for the PS3 and 360 already. All we actually need is peripheral vision and we'll be set. First person games would actually make sense.

Not getting these even if they drop to $50. I bought their wireless stereo headset and it's as if they didn't even test it with a wireless connection for the PS3, making it a choice of using the headset or being able to do any online activity on the PS3. Not to mention the PC compatibility sounding like shit. (Yes, it says it may not be compatible with all computers, but quality doesn't equal functionality)

This M2D set is amazing. Too pricey for you? a 3DTV and a surround sound system will cost you 3 times that much, (and you only get one pair of glasses for 3D anyway :P).

Now think about this: what if you lived in a very small apartment, with no space for a 40' TV or a surround sound system. You also don't wan't to be noisy because the walls are thin. Sony is giving this great thing to people in Japan who are living in such conditions, like me. But you wouldn't understand such a thing would you? Maybe when you stop living with your parents and try to get your own little place you'll get it.

I agree that the price is quite high, but I saw an OLED display at the Sony building in Tokyo years ago, and the picture clarity was breath-taking. So, it may not be fair to judge these glasses compared to past LCD glasses. I can understand why they cost a bit.

NR, guess if you live in a shit hole cubicle like in your office these might be good, but the rest world lives in fairly spacious and comfortable dwellings and not like trolls. True these are cheaper than a real HOME (not cubicle) theater system, but it's still only 720p, not 7.1 and the screen has to be seen to be judged for clarity.

"the rest world lives in fairly spacious and comfortable dwellings" Really? You probably live in America and are ignorant to the state of most of the other countries in the world. Living in a small house does not equal to living in a shit hole. Be my guest and try to find a huge American sized house in Tokyo, Japan (hint: you need to be pretty rich to buy one). Huge houses are only the norm in America. In Europe and Asia people dwell in relatively smaller (but not inferior) homes.
And what's this about "it's still only 720p"? These M2D will show you direct feed using OLED. It's way better then what your current HDTV can produce, even when it's showing 1080p (which most games and movies doesn't support anyway).

Can anyone say virtual boy? Best of luck to the eyes of the users who utilize this things, which is to say, I'd rather not get this if goes the same path as the virtual boy via unplanned side-effect.

3d using separate screens for each eye: gets rid of the weird flickering and nasty motion blur you get with other sets. Now add head position tracking so I can look over my shoulder in-game and we'll be talking: I'm still waiting for the VR that was all the rage in the early '90s to actually come out.
