Sega announced today that the companies net income last year was about half of what they expected at $243 million. The previous year, for example, they made $506 million around this time.

Sega hasn't announced what games will be canceled. All their statement said was "We are cancelling the development of some game software titles." You'd think that Sega's practice of updating old games to HD would survive, but we'll see.

They also haven't announced yet when and where the cutbacks will come except to say that they will be in the West. The statement reads, "It is essential to streamline organizations in the field of home video game software in the US and European markets, while shifting to a structure that corresponds to change in environment, including strengthening development in the field of digital content."

Is this pulling back the death knell of Sega?

You lucky to get 1 half decent game a year from them now anyway, because that 80s & 90s Sega that were brilliant are long dead now and all they doing is using the Sega name to be a publisher of mediocre games.

Sega has always been a visionary. But as soon as they went strictly software all ass. Maybe they took some things from nintendo but they did make them better. So really all i am trying to say is... yep. your right.

SEGA are sitting on a goldmine of Dreamcast titles, they need to HD the fan favourites and bring them to both XBLA and PSN unchanged, Achievement/Trophies, decently priced ..... Hot Cakes !!!!!!

i doubt that will happen. crazy taxti wasnt worth the price it was on xbl/psn with the music licencing change(the original pc version didnt have same sound track either so it wasnt a loss on the pc) & lack of trademark locations so i bought it when it was on sale on xbl

Reaping what they sow. Two decades of Sonic sequels and little else.

Even the original stuff (Bayonetta and Vanquish), was written by someone else, and Sega never cashed in on any follow-ups. No pull-through = no profit.

Binary Domain is a step in the right direction, but it's all come too late. Gears/MW/Halo took the top spots ages ago.

they need to merge with someone.
You right SEGA isn't what it used to be but just like anyone else you need good spirits and high hopes in life, and hopefully if they were to merge im sure there would endless possibilities for them along with a new beginning. after so long thats something i would've done if i owned sega

Sammy bought SEGA about 10 years ago. If you want to know why SEGA has gone to shite, you need not look too far. *cough* SAMMY! *cough* They sold off Visual Concepts (known for their SEGA Sports/2k games) and dissolved many of their studios like Andromeda(a.k.a Smilebit)who was responsible for the Panzer Dragoon and Jet Set/Grind Radio series. They are now on bitch duty making Mario & Sonic @ the Olympics games... Yu Suzuki is gone.

Thanks a lot Sammy!

GOOD FOR THEM! Thats what happens when big Companies dont give ppl what they want. A good old school Shining force and Phantasy star. Instead they do what ever they want and forgetting that we are the ones who buy their products and make them the big company that they are.
