SCEE confirms Classic PS2 titles for European PS3

Yes, European PS3 gamers can now look forward to getting classic PS2 titles on their consoles.

This exciting news was confirmed by SCEE earlier this weekend, saying, "The Only On PlayStation Network programme is for the SCEA region only."

"However, we will be bringing the majority of the content to the SCEE audience, including Classic PS2 titles." We don't know as of yet if "Classic PS2" will be the official term coined for it, but if that's the case, then it's plain, simple, easy to understand, and rather succinct, so there should be no problem with that.

On top of that, however, SCEE furthers, "We have numerous exciting offers that we will be introducing to PSN users throughout our region in the lead up to Christmas and look forward to sharing these with you."

As to what these offers could be, price cuts in the games woudn't hurt, although it might be quite the stretch in the wish list already. Now just keep it posted here, we'll be sure to update you on what are the titles enlisted under the Classic PS2 programme as soon as SCEE sends out official word on it.

Finally, they were probably waiting for the PS2 to stop selling. Though I have a 60GB PS3 and a ton of PS2 titles. There are a few obscure ones I might be interested in like Odin Sphere and Suikoden IV.

I rather use my money though on newer titles for the PS3 tough, and buy games for cheap n their PS2 form used, like I did with Psychonauts. Unless the PS2 Classics are $15 or less I won't buy any, besides even though I enjoy having it always on the system, I also like having the box art. Or if available I'll get the remastered HD collection sets like I will for ICO/SotC.

Seems I spoke a bit to quickly, just found out the games are $9.99 each and Odin Sphere is one of the first ones available! I know what I'm buying.

James Bond: Nightfire

I would say Metalgear but the Mgs series are just around the corner ..in HD..+Tropht's, can't complain

I just wish they'd release a PS2 backwards compatibility on a firmware update to play ALL the PS2 games classics or not.

So sony removes the ability to play the games you've already purchased so that they can sell you the same titles again.

How do they ever find the time to make new games for all the time spent repackaging games from 10-15 years ago?

I've got like 60 original Ps2 games and like Hell am i paying for them again, i mean they the only ones who don't offer free last gen backwards compatibility, and them over-engineering the Ps3 and removing Ps2 playback means sh!t to me cos that's their stupidity not mine, so i hope this is a Ps2 emulator so someone can instantly hack the Hell out of it to give us back what's already ours, but knowing our luck though they probably found some way to port Ps2 games through the Ps3 SDK and manage to piss people off even more.
