SCEE Blog Manager: PSN Pass is just following industry directions |
Listed in: News Tags: psn pass, resistance 3, Sony
SCEE Blog Manager James Gallagher has been witness to all the blasting tirade, and so has spoken out in defense of the said PSN Pass. "There is a lot of heated discussion around this topic and I can see the points on both sides," he started.

"At the end of the day, it's the direction the industry is heading in and seeing the bargains you can pick up in the used game market now, I think customers can still pick up a second hand game, and an online pass, and still be getting a good deal."
News of the PSN Pass first broke out when a picture of Resistance 3's boxart carried the curious PSN Pass label. Immediately, reactions - most of them not very welcoming - from gamers poured in, and analysts soon jumped on board, qualifying it as a poorly timed move by Sony.

Yeah sure with the extra £10 atleast that you will charge for the service, some of the games will actually be costing more not long after release.
Going back to the previous news that apparently it helps maintain premium services, I just want to say what services? PS Plus? But you pay for that anyway (and it isnt even worth it). And how will making preowned players buy a pass but let orginal copys get it for free pay for services? It makes no f'ing diffrence to the amount they make.
It really annoys me when Sony, Microsoft and big game developers charge for online play when it is all that is in the game anyway (since dedicated single player games are the only ones with any satisfaction or duration). I mean they bitch about prewoned sales crippiling them but how much money do they make a year? Plus preowned sales have been around since PSX and only now its apparently costing them money? Thats just stupid.
Im just lucky that me and a friend often share games that one of us doesnt play anymore, and both have access to the others accounts so we can still play online on a diffrent ps3. Hows that for an up yours sony?

Besides they say about these laws but by the time they are actually enforced it will be too late like with illegal downloads of music and such. So many people will be doing it that it will be impossible to stop everyone. And then what about people with more than one ps3. I know its rare but some do.

Is that so....?
So whats next? Online is only the start?
Next....when U buy a disced based or even DDL based game you won't be able to play it at all (single-player as well as Online play) without registering a 1-kuntish time serial code for the whole package - uh!
Now that would really STOP the USED game market now wouldn't it!?
So... C'MON kuntz ...do it!!!!I dare ya!!

Wrong, the fee is paid by the original owner of the game. Remember that when you sell a game you are transferring ownership. So on the server side of the ecuation there's no change since one user is just replaced by another "-1+1=0".

Just one more reason for me to refuse to do business with Sony.

BULLSHIT. You are part of the leading industry: You have a large voice in where it is heading, and you are CHOOSING to lead us there. I am an avid Sony supporter, but this is exactly the kind of thing that alienates core supporters. Sony's screwed with us so many times at this point, and everyone has their limits. Removal of Other OS? Absolute failure in internet and user security? Now they're going to charge US extra because Gamestop has a stranglehold on the used game market? Why doesn't Sony work out a deal with them, instead of screwing the consumer?

Seriously, the last 14 games I bought were all under $30 and only 2 were used. Best part is they aren't old titles, many released this year. Although my backlog is enormous because of it...

I'm getting tired of Sony. I'll be building a new gaming PC soon and just ditch console online play completely.
I'm just getting tired of them nickle-and-dime'n me at every possible chance.

I can definitely expect all of the upcoming Sony exclusive games will be packing this crap.
I wouldn't worry about cross-platform games.
