Rumor: Sony to be hit by third cyber-attack |
Listed in: News Tags: anonymous, PlayStation Network, ps3 hack, Sony
CNET reports that a group of hackers are planning another wave of assault againts Sony.

According to the site: "An observer of the Internet Relay Chat channel used by the hackers told CNET today that a third major attack is planned this weekend against Sony's Web site. The people involved plan to publicize all or some of the information they are able to copy from Sony's servers, which could include customer names, credit card numbers, and addresses, according to the source. The hackers claim they currently have access to some of Sony's servers."
If the latest attack will succeed, this will be another blow to Sony's already tarnished reputation, with its failure to properly secure user data on their online service that led to personal info being compromised.
Earlier today, hacker group Anonymous has once again denied any responsibility on the PSN attack, despite Sony pointing fingers on the group after they discovered a file named "Anonymous" containing the statement "We are Legion," part of the group's tagline on its hacked server.

You can live in the past if you want but realize that online gaming is a part of gaming now weather you use it or not. That's why most games have online components even if it doesn't have a multiplayer mode.
And I think any real gamer would just want to play their games to their fullest potential, online included.

So it's pretty obvious when you think about it.

As for having "guts", let me point out that it takes NO guts to attack someone by remote. If they truly had guts they'd be out in the open and showing themselves.
No, no.... these are merely cowards, you mouth breathing asshat.
I would suggest, by the way, you go back and take remedial English classes.

Btw, I've loved Sony since childhood but I think they bought this on themselves since they didn't learn from their last litigation with Immersion which ended up with a $200 million settlement as opposed to a $10 million out of court settlement which Microsoft & Nintendo did. SMH...

Nobody 'deserves' anything like that because it's not only Sony being affected, it's millions of customers as well. You obviously don't spend or can't spend any money on anything good in life, so shut your face and appreciate what company's like Sony provide for people.

Besides, single player game-modes don't take any real form of skill... Real people are always going to play better than even the most advanced form of AI. Hence the fact that the more "hardcore" gamers play online.

And Single Player games aren't all that great especially the rubbish that's being released nowadays, I'm more of a Single Player Game fanatic but there are some that you really should try in Co-Op.
And Sony is spelt with an 'S' not a '$', you moron.

I really don't see how it's too much for them to handle when they're fixing the only huge problem they've had since launch. Although its a big problem they're actually fixing it. Remember that Xbox Live was down for about two weeks last year so it's not like down time isn't needed.
It's easier to have patients when you have something else to do (another console or computer to play on).

I mean its not like we have single player games to play, right?

Lies, deceipt, yes attack, no attack, yes personal data, no personal data, 3rd may, 4th may, next month...i had it with Sony.
And i think the hackers do too. Im sorry, but psn is not a safe place to play anymore.
Yes, i hate it too, want to play MK9 online, but this arrogance has to stop.
And this seems the only way.

the way this is going theres more chance it has something to do with microsoft or just simply american racism. because its not like microsoft hasnt ever fucked people over and imo worse than Sony have lately, why would they get away with out all this crap.

If $ony didn't sue anyone and actually hired security experts instead then non of this would've happened so don't go blaming the hackers blame the real people and thats $ony.
If PSN was secure then nothing would've been stolen and there would've been no hacks.
There will be more hacks against $ony. Just wait for the big one.
The PSN hack was only the first, the big one is still to come.

Way to go, $ony, 25million personal data is stolen and the "compensation" is PS Plus and Music Unlimited for 30 Days, oh WOW it's such a big reward... NOT!

do you realise that theres always a way through any security. theres always a way to do almost anything. if these hackers wanted to do this to microsoft, you dont think they could?

Next your gonna tell me it was the World Trade Center's fault for being so damned easy to have planes crash into it...
A terrorist is a terrorist, Sony is gonna look better by the time this is all through.
Reply
Fucking bush and the corporate-military dictatorship ordered planes for WTC and explosives to bring them down.
But its sony's fault for not giving people freedom, they lock people into their user raping system called PSN and dont allow any other alternative network system for multiplayer.
A terrorist is bullshit, according to them we are all potential terrorists.
HAckers are freedom fighters!

Either way, this is the equivalent to blaming the bank because it was robbed. "Oh it should have better security besides all the guards standing there with guns and the huge steel doors and button that contacts police. IT SHOULD HAD TURRETS!"

Dear gods. Shooters do make you crazy.
Now, if you'll excuse me, I need to play a few more uninterrupted hours of my single player RPG. thankfully, nothing bad has happened to interrupt my single player gaming. It'd suck if I couldn't plY my favorite games for a month, right?
Augh... Single Player. Never dies.

For me, the use of my general credit cards for online services is coming to an end. The future will lie with top up cards to distance ourselves. The sad thing for companies will be the resulting end to impulse buys, where we monitor credit more closely. I have spent a fair bit on PSN with my apparent never ending credit and can see that my bad habits may finally gain some measure of sense when I see my charge card balance dwindle. Good for me - bad for Sony and other companies for that matter.

Why are they hurting the consumers.
I am so frustrated with this situation as I can imagine Sony would be.
Why can't they go hack Microsoft.

Unless you meant you wanted hackers to cut off you`re fist and wire it to a computer and controll it, doable also.

These F*ing hackers need to get a life

So far as the file they found, that doesn't prove anything. Maybe it is an impostor group, or maybe some people that are "in" Anonymous that didn't want to just sit around and do nothing.
These hackers are just making it hard on all the good people (and maybe some bad too) that own a PS3 and want to be able to use PSN's features.
Then again, maybe they are just hardcore Wii or 360 fanboys. XD
Anyway, I hope PSN comes back up. It is not fair for a a group of jerks to make people who have paid for something suffer. The consumers are suffering just like Sony. Anonymous realized this and stopped what they were doing. (Though I still think they just fell flat on their face.)
Sorry for such a long post, it just seems like mostly Sony haters are posting comments. Not everyone hates Sony. Just because you are not happy with some of their actions is no reason to get pissed off at them.

As a start, I own a PS3 Slim and 3 PSP's (Phat, Slim & Go). I'm looking forward to the PSN coming back online, as I too want to play Co-Op with Portal 2... however these boards are being filled with random comments that are said without a thought and I want to make my thoughts known.
Out of interest, how many of the flamers here (on both sides I.e. Sony &/or Hackers) have browsed multiple sites and not immediately jumped to conclusions based off a single post?
The things to keep in mind is that noone knows EXACTLY what has happened with the PSN at this stage, except maybe Sony themselves. The reasons for people being upset, annoyed and in some cases screaming for blood/murder/rape (major over reaction and not something I want to read about every 2nd post) are as follows with my thoughts:
First and foremost, Sony PSN & SOE got hacked (same day)- yes they did, but can you tell me by who? Who's put their hand up? No one... Further more, it's not just "Hackers" annoyed with Sony, but 205 employees who worked for Sony in their Networks team.
Can someone out there explain why a Software/Network security breach requires the physical relocation of the servers? It makes it sound like there was an actual breach within their data centre, rather than just an external intrusion.
Secondly, a lot more people are annoyed/upset with Sony (Governments as well) with the way this has been handled. It took Sony 6 days to come out and 'blog' that their network had been compromised and data possibly stolen. Yes I can understand that they need to find out what had been taken as well as how this compromise of their systems had occurred, however leaving the world in the dark for 6 days is NOT going to look good! A small press release stating that there has been some untoward activity requiring further investigation would have sufficed.

My thoughts as to why the hold up, is that their reaction has been similar to that of other large companies that believe they've had an 'internal' issue that needs resolved... they've gone quiet while they try to correct it before they have to go public, with the hope they have a name/face to go with the problem, so the public see's it as an Open/Shut case.
Finally, yes the PS3 has been hacked (able to run custom software/firmware) and Sony should be grateful it took as long as it did to do. I know a lot of people don't use OtherOS (including myself), but removing a feature that was advertised on purchase wasn't exactly a great move... even for those that didn't care about OtherOS, this was a company removing an advertised feature of their product and following it up with a EULA (which you have to agree to before going onto the PSN or upgrading software) that they have the right to remove any feature at any time. If you don't see the problem with this statement, then you really shouldn't have the use of a computer or any electronic device that is software upgradeable.
I would really like to get back on the PSN, however I can wait as I'd like to know who/what/why this happened. I'm not angry at whoever breached Sony's security (although stealing personal data is wrong and I am slightly worried about my personal information), I am however VERY CONCERNED about the way Sony has handled this.
--StepBack--
P.s. Oh-wouldn't this be the "2nd" attack that is being rumored? PSN/SOE looks like a single attack...

If you want to make a point about not having ROMS or shit on your PS3, then whine to someone that cares..like the person staring back at you in the mirror, and by a damn PC or Mac and play your roms on there with LINUX.
I am so sick of ppl messing up good stuff just cause they don't get their way. MIND YOU, though, NOT ALL "hackers" do this, or even want too. But the people that do this kinda shit, even like "Anonymous" just want attn.
Its a damn cry for help in the world cause they cant get their way. Well BooF*cking HOO! Get a fu*king life, job and marry someone, or don't. I don't care. Most of these "new hackers" out there are flipping EMO kids that just want someone to notice them and their "talents"
So To all these "hackers" that are causing shit for SONY, AND M$, I challenge you to something. A Duel of WITS, and MORALITY.
INSTEAD of hacking all this crap and making ppl pissed off at you, why don't you APPLY with M$ OR SONY? Why don't YOU SHOW THEM what you can do FOR them. All your doing otherwise is trying to suckle a tit that's inst there.
No one will hold your hand through all this crap and if they do, more power to them for keeping your mental level at an all time low.
Don't like what I'm saying? Tough. Grow the F up and let your balls drop cause I am sure that there are others out there that will ruin your day as well. I just maybe one of them myself.

Clearly Sony are clueless as to proper security measures regarding locking down linux servers and properly installing and configuring a segmented firewall architecture.
I am so thankful I will never join PSN and have my identity stolen by a group of script kiddies
