Stevenson explained in the blog that there will be 16-player Human vs. Chimera deathmatch, as well as objective-based modes scattered throughout the world. Said he, "That may seem somewhat jarring after the 40 and 60-player mayhem in RFOM and R2. Rest assured, though, our biggest motivation in determining our new player count was the fun times that we and the community had on maps like RFOM's Busyard and Rooftops, as well as the Bayou House and San Francisco maps in Resistance 2."
He also reassured fans that they will be able to make their own progression paths throught the multiplayer features. If there's anything they learned from Resistance 2 co-op, it's "giving players the ability to create specific roles in a team and level up different abilities -- which you will see with the various active tactical and support abilities, as well as the new personal and combat attributes."
The way they incorporated that lesson to Resistance 3 is by adding in the option for the players to pick their different suport abilties, as well as level the same. Samples of which would be the Bubble Shield, the Ammo Beacon (because sharing ammo to your teammates is love), or Radar Beacon (amps up your team's radar).

More tactical abilities have also been put in for you to use against your opponents. If you want to distract them, you can flash an image nearby using the Doppelganger to throw them off guard, and ultimately, off your track. If you want to hit the mad dash, though, instead of waiting it out for the enemy to get distracted by your pretty picture, then just use the Dash ability. That should send you flying out of there before they can even say Resistance 3.
Apart from those treats, you will also have the option to select and level attributes, whether they be personal or combat. They're also throwing in a nifty customizing treat in the form of the character loadout, "to fit your own unique playstyle in Resistance 3."

60 Player Mayhem was hell of Fun. Cooperative was also very cool.
But this looks like they copied quite a lot from Battlefield and Call of Dutys Multiplayer. It should stay where their roots were. But okay lets see when the games out.
