Category 2: Networks
Networking can be a somewhat fragmented thing on both console and PCs, so to make things simple, let's break it down and compare the two best networks for each. In general, if you're a PC gamer, chances are Steam is going to be one of your biggest choices to chat with friends and get new content. If you've got a console, then Xbox Live probably has your overall best-equipped feature set. Both of these networks began development around the same time and offer many of the same perks. The great thing about Steam however is in a lot of senses the community is more inclined and ready to go all-in digital with their games. After all, plenty of us can get a hard drive with a terabyte or more, so storage comes at a lot more of a premium. On top of that, the content is cheaper for the most part and relies on no yearly fees.

Now we get to networks on consoles which for the most part have in a lot of ways been hit or miss. Xbox Live is certainly on the former end of things with its pretty solid integration, voice chat, and even app functionality, but does that make them a better service? Maybe not. For one thing, you've got to shell out fifty dollars a year to use their option where Steam will cost you nothing. Not to mention the market itself is still somewhat behind on moving games to the digital realm. Sure you have your awesome Arcade titles like Minecraft, but at the end of the day you're always going to have to be keeping an eye on that hard drive space when you do. In general, the hardware of PCs kind of gives Steam the edge here, but I see that possibly changing when the next hardware iterations come around.
Winner: PC (Steam)

But yea, PC gaming is as good as the money you're willing to throw down (but not on prebuilts from Worst Buy or something like that, cuz they're overpriced and come with shit for video cards and PSUs.
Hell, get an HD 7750-7770 or GTX 650 for less than $100 bucks and put it inside your existing PC. There you go, gaming PC.

Same can be said with hooking up console to PC monitor at a desk.
Point is, PC isn't limited to desk only.

If you don't want to do all that (like me) you're better off just sticking to a console considering most PC games are just ports from a PS3 or 360.

Whenever I get tired of fps games, I switch to skyward sword on the dolphin emulator.
Whats cool is that I can draw the game with my PC at 4x the native resolution.
