Sony has finally unveiled the technology behind the upcoming PSP Remaster series, which allows developer to bring some good ole' PSP titles straight to the PS3.
Announced at Sony’s Game Tools & Middleware Forum 2011 event in Tokyo yesterday, the middleware technology behind the PS3 HD remakes will be simply known as the PSP Engine. The new engine will basically act as a middleware between the PS3s OS and a PSP game, while offering a slew of new and improvements, such as:
- High res rendering
- Control (with Dual Analogue support) through wireless controllers (Dualshock 3/Sixaxis)
- 3D stereoscopic output
- Ad-hoc Party unification
- Main memory and graphic memory expansion
- Common save data
The PSP Engine will be used in the upcoming ports of Metal Gear Solid Peace Walker and Monster Hunter 3rd HD. Sony confirmed last May that the PSP Remaster games won't features trophies.

instead of emulating the whole code it is a integration that reverse engine the source of the game and partialy convert the code to the ps3.
some curent emulator does similar things like dolphin who can output stereoscopic 3d with gamecube and wii games.
or some n64 plugs that add pixel shaders and hdr bloom to old n64 games.
it guess it is a nice idea but im disapointed cause it is another reason to milk us.

(the eu models)
a bit like the 360.
only jp ones had hardware emulation.
but some games had glitches and it wasnt working with demo disc.
so they prefered gave up.
some dongles are using those software to make slim ps3 compatible .
but it is still verry buggy.

The EU-60gb and US-80gb both have the GPU in hardware and the ps3 software emulates the CPU.
There is NO PS3 that supports ps2 games in software alone.

I'd more than LOVE to be able to play FF Crisis core on the PS4 since I don't have any portable console (dislike them). =D

This probably makes me look like a huge Square fanboy but I'm actually not. Those are just some of those games I really would like to play (again) on the big screen.
Peace Walker and Monster Hunter really were the only other 2 games I wanted to see get a PS3 port but we're getting those already so.. yeah..
