PSN shutting down at night for young Korean gamers |
Listed in: News Tags: korean gaming laws, psn korea shut down
Korea wants to make sure that young gamers get enough rest, and have instituted a law that forces gamers under a certain age to stop playing games for a block of six hours a night. Known as The Shutdown Law, this little gem wasn’t going to affect PS3 owners until Sony announced today that they will be complying with the mandate and shutting down the PlayStation Network for young Korean gamers during the prescribed six-hour period of rest. One November 18, 2011 gamers in Korea under the age of sixteen will be prevented from making new PSN accounts or logging in between the hours of midnight and 6:00 AM. This is to prevent online gaming addiction and to keep kids focused for their studies.

You’re going to hate it when I say this, but I kinda agree with this law. Any fifteen-year-old up playing Battlefield 3 at four in the morning is harming his chances of living a normal and productive life. Considering that this law is in Korea says a lot, considering how gaming is now such a huge part of their culture. Now if you happen to be a young Korean vampire, there out to be some sort of clemency for this. I’ll be on the lookout for any developments for this underrepresented segment of the Korean gaming population.

Why because some group of people that never play games decided it? Theres no real evidence that games causes any problems, other than if playing them too much.
