PSN Accounts Renamed

PSN member? Check your e-mails, you may (or in my case may not?) have gotten an e-mail from Sony informing you that PlayStation Network accounts will now be renamed to ‘Sony Entertainment Network’ accounts. Why? Sony gives a nice old vague answer, saying that the change is based on their goal to ‘enhance’ it’s unique digital entertainment offering, and helps them get closer to their goal of establishing a global network of platform of services across games, movies, music ‘and more’.

PSN accounts on the PSP will still be called PSN accounts, but will affect the next firmware update on the PS3. One can only assume this ‘Sony Entertainment Network’ moniker is for the world of smartphones and mobile devices, where users will be hopefully purchasing music and films from there.

Nintendo did the same thing recently, with the Nintendo Network renaming.

It makes sense, although I like the acronym PSN better .. It's actually quite smart. It helps promote the unity of Sony products. Have a Sony TV and bought a movie on it? It's not tied to the TV, it's tied to your account .. Sort of like iTunes on a broad scale. The PSN name seems limited to only PS products

That was the point, PSN = gaming, everything else = Sony other account.
