When the PlayStation 4 finally ships, either this year or next, will it come bundled with a dual camera? Rumors are popping up that suggest it might.
According to some sources at VGLeaks, the PlayStation 4 will in fact feature an “evolutionized HD EyeToy” that is referred to as the “Dual Camera.” The camera employs two wide-angle cameras with 720p resolution and has a 4 microphone array that operates at 48 kHz to process sound.
So, beyond the camera’s specs, what can it actually do? Besides coming in handy for video chat, the Dual Camera can be used to recognize users and log them into the system. That’s not all, however, as the camera will also be able to track both your hands and your head to use them as new game inputs. As for whether or not the camera will track body movements in a manner similar to Kinect, that is unknown for now. The Dual Camera is expected to be bundled with every PlayStation 4.
