PS3 sales surge 400% following price cut in Australia

Looks like Sony's gamble paid off, as the company have revealed a huge spike of PS3 sales following the recent price cut.

According to sony, the figures was based on the data gathered by NPD Australia which shows a “a surge of over 400 percent” in the week following the price drop was implemented across the 160GB and 320GB models in Australia.

“This new price point really represents fantastic value for money as PlayStation 3 delivers full HD games, Blu-ray capability, plus music, movies, catch-up TV and more on demand,” said Michael Ephraim, Managing Director, Sony Computer Entertainment Australia.

“Australians love not only games, but also the quality home entertainment PS3 provides. Sales are booming because PlayStation 3 is the best device to connect to your TV, at incredible value, to provide the ultimate home entertainment experience."

Last week's Japanese charts also showed a huge improvements in PS3 sales as it rose almost 50 per cent following the price drop was implemented.

am i the only one who still thinks i got a tremendous bargain when i spent 600+ on my launch 60 gig. that frikin thing did everything. and remember when the only knock against it was that it had no good games lol. wow have things changed. i think there are more aaa exclusive games coming out for the ps3 in the next 6 months than the 360 has had in its entire life cycle. and i mean aaa games that i actually want to play. sorry, i dont want to play an arcade style racer and yet another halo game. sorry, its old and lame

I still power on my original 60gb almost every day. Almost 5 years and it is still worth the launch price although I wish I didn't wear out a controller almost every year (I play A LOT).

Funny that my friend offered to loan me his original Xbox360 the other day and I declined. I didn't want it to die in my care. It has died/been replaced twice.
