Team Bondi has revealed that the PS3 was the leading platform for its upcoming detective thriller, L.A. Noire.

Speaking in an interview with 1UP, studio boss Brendan McNamara said that the game was developed on the PS3 first and then it was ported to the Xbox 360 because of the studio's familiarity with Sony's hardware.

“I think it was an obvious decision. We'd always been -- apart from Psygnosis which was for Sony -- we always made multiplatform stuff. But essentially, for some 10 years at Sony, we were an internal shop,” said McNamara. “We knew the PlayStation 2 and PlayStation 3 stuff pretty well, and for us it was a change. But for Rockstar they'd done a lot of that.”

“For this project, we led on PlayStation 3, and in a way I think that's what most people are doing. We found out that people were doing 360 and then trying to get stuff across to PS3 and were struggling with it. There seems to be less of a struggle to go the other way, I think. You hear things that you have to put a lot of effort into on PS3 and get it up and running pretty quickly on the 360,” he said.

As we previously reported, the Xbox 360 version of the game comes on three discs, while the PS3 version will be on single Blu-ray. L.A. Noire will be out on May 17th in North America and May 20th in Europe for the PS3 and Xbox 360.

thats complete bullshit.if you do it first on 360 and its harder to port it on the ps3 = bugs may occur. If you make it on the ps3 1-st and then port it to the 360 its easier so that must mean less problems.if before more companies were making the games 360 to ps3 and they were still incredible, then now it would not make any difference between the versions at all.

Everyone listen to Niko! He has developed for both 360 and PS3! Why would developers listen to Niko? He knows stuff way better than developers do!

\end of sarcasm

The PS3 has one PPC core, the 360 has three. Now, the PS3 has 8 SPEs, with 6 of those available to developers, so don't for a second think I'm trying to impugn the PS3's power, but they're much harder to code for than the main PPC core. If you can get a game working on just one PPC core, then recreating the SPE functions to run on the two extra available PPCs on the 360 is almost easier than force-feeding a bulldog beef jerky.

Don't get me wrong, it's still a lot of work, but I can see why it'd be much easier that way around.

Seems everyone forgot that this was originally going to release as a PS3 exclusive back when they very first announced it

I totally forgot that... though... when they announced that... it was way before any kind of media existed for the game. Thus it would of be early in development.

All that said, I'm pumped to hear another title was done right on the PS3 before it was moved over - gone are the days where PS3 players get crappy ports, it seems.

what gets me is if they made it for the ps3 first then the entire coding for the game would be incompatible with the 360.

BUT the entire game are programmed on power pc's which funny enough what the xbox360 is.

all games are made on pwoer pc's or gaming pc's which is easier to code for the 360, in short it was done on the 360 as dev videos showed them using the joypad from a 360 on the early stages of development.

so as for "ps3 first then xbox" is total and utter bullshit.

toss in the fact that the ps3 can only scale hd where as the 360 is true hd

Know what? His "facts" aren't even remotely true. In fact, one of the things he said is actually the opposite way around altogether; the PS3 has always rendered HD games at a native resolution, while the 360 upscales (hence the dedicated upscaling chip on the GPU). :P

LOL! Sure, I want to punch Sony in the face for their idiotic network security but I am glad I won't be swapping out any discs while playing this game.

I think it's the other way around lol. actually I'm sure and I am pretty confident about it. The 360 is the one that upscales every game to 1080p, that is not their native resolution. Ps3 has always come out with games running at 720p (exclusives and multi-platform games!) these Xbox fanboys really need to do their research before they make themselves look like idiots. It's in the speCs. GO LOOK IT UP. LOL

Kinda makes sense in a backwards sort of way, because developers keep saying the 360's the easiest then they have to go through the headache of an SDK on the Ps3, but I guess just getting the Ps3 version in the can then it's easy from there.
