Includes auto cloud game saves and Trophy sync features. But before you get excited, unfurtunately, this one is only exclusive to all PlayStation Plus subscribers.

So here's the breakdown of the upcoming update according to SCEA's Eric Lempel:

For PlayStation Plus subscribers:

  • The [Automatic Download] feature will now be called [Automatic Update].
  • A new auto upload function for online save data back-up will be added to make it easier to back-up your game save data. Under (Game), select the game for which you want to automatically upload saved data, and then press the Triangle button.
  • Also, Trophies will now sync automatically at the timing of Auto Download.

For all users:

  • A new recommendation function will be added that enables you to share your recommendations for PlayStation Store items, such as games and videos, with PlayStation Network friends.
  • A new category on the XMB called TV/Video Services has been added.
    • You’ll be able to find and download all of the video applications available on PS3 directly from this new XMB category.
    • A folder labeled “My Channels” within this category will allow you to easily access your downloaded applications.
    • Any videos downloaded from the PlayStation store will continue to be placed in the existing Video category on the XMB
  • 3D support will now be available when accessing Java-based special features on Blu-Ray
  • DTS-HD MA, DTS-HD HR decoding/bit stream output (or lossless audio) will be supported while playing Blu-ray 3D movies.
  • 3D digital photos in MPO format can now be viewed in 3D on the XMB and in the Photo Gallery app.

The update will be available "soon". Lempel added that they will also release a minor update for the PSP "soon." Stay tuned as we get more details on that one. The last PS3 update was released last June but didn't include anything new except for the "system stability improvements."

I'm sure this update also has to do with their new Terms of Service (ToS). I got an e-mail from PlayStation about their new ToS, so I thought, "great! another update with nothing useful!" But I guess some of that useful stuff is ok, mainly for the Plus Subscribers. The auto Game Save Cloud Update feature is pretty cool. Thats about it though.

the only thing that sounds good is for PLUS members when are the non-PLUS people going to get something good because i refuse to pay for anything that $0NY has to offer because they refuse to deal with the hacking and cheating that is making online play so crappy they should implement a ps3 scan that would scan the ps3 for the firmware version and if its been alterd in any way then it would be locked and your ps3 would be PERMA BANNED/BRICKED (and do not try to defend hackers as they are the reason for so many problems on the ps3 its their console but NOT their service)

MKV is a container. Supporting it would only mean it would support the same codecs as before, just now with your favourite container. It's not that hard just to copy the video into another container that PS3 supprts.

You must be transcoding it from your PC to your PS3, with PS3 Media Server or something else.

Although we all saw this coming roughly a year ago when they announced PS+, I don't like how they are creating all of these neat features for PS+ users and don't give 'anything neat' to normal users anymore...

If you ask me, auto syncing of trophies should have been in the system from day one and should be a feature everyone can 'enjoy'... ( Well, I have never really bothered with syncing them manually but still, I don't like how PS+ users are getting all the neat features and normal people aren't getting anything 'nymore )

tbf the cloud thing is understandable that its ps+ only.
the trophy thing isnt exactly worth paying for and the other thing is just a rename.
You could always just pay to get ps+ if you think those features are handy. :P

Personally ps+ is a joke, I didnt notice any difference when I had it for free for that month. the only thing I got from it, was a free-for-a-month streets of rage.

So does this mean that PS+ subscribers can upload unlimited amounts of saves to the cloud? Also I wish they would give a comments feature for items in the PS Store. Sometimes I am on the fence about a game or dlc and it would be helpful to see what everyone else thinks instead of having to close the Store and do another search on the item. Even though we do have the star rating system which is helpful, sometimes I like to see why items are rated high or low.

All garbage. Why does Sony think we want this crap? I ONLY have a PS3 for gaming and it sucks to be forced to get these damn things.

My free month of ps+ was a waste of time, I did not get any additional features that made me want to subscribe. I was left unimpressed with the ps+ service after the free trial month so I will not be paying for this service.

i kinda like how they catagorized a section all for tv services. it seems theres might be mroe coming to the ps3. as for the ps+ stuff i rather like it. dont get me wrong i already paied for a year and a half of the ps+ and i like it been using it sense it was introduced. it's kinda the xbox gold live addon for psn lol and i don't like xbox live (to many cocky kids that cannot shut their mouth on the headset and way to many fan boys)

After the free trial I subscribed to PS+, it's been worth it for me already. I got tons of free stuff, Sonic 2,Streets of Rage 2,Golden Axe,Comix Zone,Bomberman Ultra,Guriella War,Crash Commando with the DLC,Oddworld PS1 game,Destructio n Derby,Medievil, and a bunch of PSP mini's.

It's been totally worth the money. Screw you haters. Your just to damn cheap to pay so you don't get anything. Wanna bottle now? Just shut up, go away.

How about you update the browser instead, something that would actually be of use to the consumer.
