Possible FF7 remake theorized by FF dev |
Listed in: News Tags: ff7, FFVII, Final Fantasy, psn kitase, Square Enix, video game nostalgia
Final Fantasy is a series I've never fully understood. The name alone conjures up images of mistranslations and poorly made jokes that twelve year old me could barely even witticise. The developer Yoshinori Kitase has said that he would be tempted to switch things up, "delete things" and add "new elements."
The Final Fantasy VII director and scenario planner has talked about how the potential remake would be doable. He said that if he was to speak as a "game creator", he would be really tempted to change things and add "new systems" because if they remade it now, "it'd be like a repeat."
I always feel like Nintendo has the market cornered on the nostalgic sector and that Final Fantasy is one of those things that people will insist on asking when they'd probably get the same feeling from tossing themselves down the stairs and being picked up by a pretty nurse. It's the nostalgic factor of being young and empathising with the emotionally decaying Cloud and the comradery felt from the party you were with. It was a good game, I'm not gonna deny that, but Kitase is setting himself up for failure if he makes the game.
Kitase himself ackowledges this by saying that if they remade the game, "the fans might be disappointed or 'this is not what I was expecting', so in that sense maybe some might say that it's better to let memory be memory." Kitase is not stupid and he knows that it'd be incredibly financially viable, as most nostalgic properties are...I guess if they remade it, I already could guess the backlash and at least Kitase putting forward the idea of retooling it, to not "repeat" the same game.

If I could have it my way, I'd want it to feel exactly the same.
It should rock the socks of my mind and make me say "wow" like how I did when I first played the original. The PS3 tech demo definitely raised my hairs so if they could make the game at least like that graphics wise, I'd say GO with it Kitase!

Agreed. I can't read an article by Harrison for more than a few seconds before being thrown off by a mistake, bad grammar, but most importantly, bad article writing.
I felt like I was being a bit unjust in the past, and that I was picking on him a bit, but this is getting out of hand. Doesn't anybody at QJ proof read these?
I've seen multiple comments about his writing, and a few saying that they've previously commented about it and the comments weren't 'approved'.

1. its not hard to remake games. Whether the ramake is better or if its a refreshing upgrade for a new generation is another story that should be decided when they decide to do it.
2. just say "yes" or "no". All these ppl making theories on whether a game is being remade or not is getting retarded.

Theres nothing wrong with native resolution graphics to go along with a current generation production. Have you tried replaying final fantasy on a non tube tv or monitor? It's barely playable because the resolution is so off. It's not graphic whoring, we arent trying to squeeze more fps out of a shooter game here, but do make it more visually bearable and *gasp* enjoyable. Personally, I'd like voices and a new game+ mode, much like Crisis Core. Crisis Core was a great prequel but was way too linear, as opposed to open world like previous FFs. If the Sony Playstation doesn't have the hardware for this, as i suspect it may be related to its puzzling lack of RAM, port it to a pc. I'm nostalgic for the game not the hardware. I think anyone who feels otherwise may be a bit superficial about this.

Ff7: Second Chance
Sounds good?:P

It doesn't help that people will have unreasonable expectations that more than likely will never be met.
As it is, I say leave it be. FFVII has already been milked for all it's worth. It's time to put it to rest and move on.

Square-Enix has been talking about it a lot recently, that should give you a hint.
Before when us fans used to ask the company for a remake that was at the least visually appeasing and didn't burn our cornea, we would get hushed up as soon as possible.
Now the company is doing all in its power to make people remember the title FF7.
So expect a remake, hope it's as good as Final Fantasy VII: Crisis Core, since I haven't been able to play the original FF7 due to horrible graphics.
I read that an old man posted here on QJ, and said the graphics were still good for the original ff7, that old man needs to quit gaming fast.

Really? can't play a game because of bad graphics. I hate to tell you i'm in my 20's and am a proud owner of many a classic console. The FF7 graphics for there day were great, and continue to be that way, with a little nostalgia factor. You can't call yourself a gamer if you don't play games because of how they look. Back in the day all they had to hook gamers to games was gameplay. Now we have this newbie population that only wants the most shiny game.

FF8 was a million times better.
I would like them to redo 7 into a game that is enjoyable.
The story for 7 was good, not the gameplay.

whats wrong with the gameplay of ff7? isnt it the same as in 8 as well????? if ff8 is a million or even 2 times better than ff7, why is the internet and everyone talking only about 7 and not 8???
