GamePro is gone. Nintendo Power stepped quietly off the map. And now, PlayStation: The Official Magazine can add its name to the pile. Another publication run by Future US (which was in charge of NP), PlayStation: The Official Magazine will officially be shutting down after the release of its holiday 2012 issue.

There aren’t any details on why the magazine is shutting down, but I have a guess: The Internet.

Editor-in-Chief Roger Burchill had this to say via Twitter:

“And...I think it's time I say "So long and thanks for all the fish," and take a little break from Twitter. Check you on the flip side.”

At last check, PlayStation: The Official Magazine had a circulation of about 139,000. Its total audience, however, was closer to a million. Still, that’s not enough to keep a paper magazine profitable, and this probably won’t be the last niche gaming publication to close down over the next couple of years.
