The beta of Sony's PlayStation Rewards program is coming to an end this week. The beta has convinced Sony, however, that the program isn't quite ready for the public. One of our readers has tipped us off to a Sony email announcing that the PlayStatiton Rewards program won't be launched publicly this April after all.

"We wanted to take this opportunity to thank you for your participation in the PlayStation Rewards Beta, which is ending on March 31st," reads part of the email, which was sent to gamers who participated in the PlayStation Rewards Beta. "Your feedback helped us understand the kinds of things that make you feel appreciated and valued.

"Based on what we learned, we have decided the program is not ready to roll out to the public in April as originally planned. But rest assured, we will continue to thank loyal and devoted customers like you with innovative offerings."

Beta testers are getting a little extra something for their participation, though. Sony will be giving away PlayStation shirts to beta testers who reach either Select, Pro, or Legendary status by March 31.

Sony's PlayStation Rewards program gives gamers bonus downloadable content like avatars and themes as rewards for playing games, exploring PS Home, and downloading from PSN.

I wonder why they delayed it. Any beta testers want to share their experiences with the program?

they had difficulties recording user data though it could likely be resolved in updated firmware. But because of deadlines and the time an update would take the delay in the rewards program was inevitable. It's also likely their focus was shifted towards hardware security and therefore took precedence.

Wonder if hacking and abuse of trophies had anything to do with it? Any Sony fanboys wanna blame Geohot for this too?

(Note: Please detect the sarcasm as I won't be responding to the ensuing rants about this post.)

This was almost never heard of and not many people knew about it, so it was for the best they killed it off.

Now Sony, release some god damn proper applications for PS3 that don't suck!

Oh yeah, I guess Sony fanboys are going to blame piracy and Geohot for this too.

I'm retarded, I forgot it was a private beta so of course not many knew about it. Excuse me while I go kick puppies to regain my self esteem.

i found it a pretty cool experience, reached legendary in no time, the only problem really was it would take a few days for your achievements/task to update to complete

Typical SONY promising features and never delivering. It wouldn't surprise me if they do a firmware update and take another feature of your PS3, probably make it so Blur-Rays stop playing so that all the SONY fan-boys go and boost their Blur-Ray player sales. I am so glad I backed Microsoft, they promised Kinect we got Kinect, SONY promise you rewards, you got a kick in the balls. Well Done Microsoft, Well Done Indeed!!

There has been a lot of newly added features to the PS3. You can pay Querocity to download music instead of doing it for free. You can rent movies from netflix instead of doing it fine without a PS3. You can play games online and get free bonuses by paying for playstation plus instead of getting PSN for free.
Come to think of it, those aren't features at all, just attempts to make more money.
At least the blu ray playing feature probably won't be taken away.
As for Microsoft? Well no new features, but none taken away. Probably better that way.

How are you going to compare a hardware to a tested promotion? Why not compare Move to it which did launch.

It isn't really a PS3 feature if it's something extra to buy. I'd call it an option.

Like saying a base model car is better because leather, premium sound, etc. is optional for additional fee.

Sorry for injecting logic into the discussion. I know that isn't allowed here.
