Head's up to all PlayStation users! Sony has announced that the PlayStation Network will be put offline later today for a routine maintenance.

It will start from about 8:00am until approximately 7:00pm Pacific Time (4:05pm on today until 2:00am on Friday 12 August 2011, BST in Europe). "During this time, registration and Account Management will be inaccessible, including the password reset process," notes Patrick Seybold, SCEA's Sr. Director for Corporate Communications & Social Media. "While some users may experience difficulty signing into PSN and the PlayStation Store, the majority of users will be able to play online as well as sign in to external sites that require PSN authentication."
So in short, during the maintenace, you will be unable to access the PlayStation Store on PS3 and PSP, the PlayStation Network account management and account registration. Playing offline to collect in-game trophies is still a go though. Once the network is back and running, all your trophies will be updated in your profile.
Sony stressed last month that the recent PSN breach and downtime was a "great learning experience" for all of them, one that they wish they won't have to go through again.
