It looks like it was quite literally the rough patch that came out for Killzone 3. Patch 1.04 was released just a couple of days ago, and yet almost instantly, reports of more bugs came up, particularly with the online multiplayer modes.
The main intention of Patch 1.04 was to fix issues of lag, gameplay, and menu among others. However, when it came out, it seemed to add more to these issues as opposed to clearing them out.
Most of the complaints are from the regions of North America and Europe, although it's not necessarily confirmed that the issues are limited to them. Even worse is that some gamers complain of bugs that they never had prior to the patch.
Apart from persisting lag issues, there are now complaints of "stuttering", and levitating players. That would be on top of the error codes that have been popping up all over.
