Operation Raccoon City Proves Gamers will Buy Anything with a Familiar Name

If you swing by Metacritic and check out Resident Evil: Operation Raccoon City, you’ll see that the game isn’t exactly a fan favorite. It’s also not a critical darling—the game has a 52 average from reviewers and a 5.2 from users. While it’s unclear how the game would have performed if released under a different name (my guess is poorly), the Resident Evil brand helped skyrocket this turd up the charts.

Since its release in March, ORC has moved 1.7 million copies. And while that may not sound like much, it’s enough to make the game Capcom’s 25th bestselling of all time. Operation Raccoon City moved more copies than the arguably more anticipated Street Fighter X Tekken, which managed only 1.4 million sales in roughly the same timeframe. Bearing in mind that the game has only been out for just over a month, it’s safe to assume it will continue adding to its sales tally for a few more weeks.

It isn’t all good news for Capcom, however—the developer/publisher has seen a 16 percent dip in sales from last year, with operating income and net income both sinking as well. Capcom is banking on “high growth potential content,” whatever that means, and Resident Evil 6 to help turn the tides.

Let this be a lesson to all of you would-be developers out there: If you make a shitty game, just buy the rights to a popular franchise. Problem solved.

CoD isn't a bad game though, it just isn't as good as it should be for the amount of money they raking in.

I think that buggy hitboxes make it a bad game, but I guess that's just me...

Same thing is going to happen to The Elders Scrolls Online. It's gonna suck balls just like FFXIV. All it has, is the name.

It is no surprise that it sold so well as it must have raked in the Left4Dead fans as they are waiting for something new and this game is the closest to it...

Still the game is rubbish, I did say that the moment it was announced as Capcom always fails at team based games (oh don't you dare get me started on the team AI on every game they make)and seem to concentrate on graphics more than making the entire game fun...

Everyone is asking them to go back to Resident Evil 1 % 2 gameplay like the remakes they did on the Gamecube but it is clear Capcom is no longer caring about its customers wants, they are only concerned about making their wallets fatter, hence why Megaman Legends 3 will never came out...

Survival horror's all but dead now, and everyone isn't asking them to go back to RE1&2 gameplay, it's just a vocal minority that makes it seem like a lot.

I have the game and I really liked, not perfect, have a lot, and I mean a lot of bugs, but still a good fun game. A good turn for the serie.

Things like this is why Capcom is loosing sales. Sure a lot of people bought it, but many of those people will find it mediocre, and that's what Capcom has become lately, mediocre. Capcom just needs to quit it with things like on disc DLC that comes out day one, that stuff pisses off the consumers. It makes me avoid the Capcom name. Or should I say Capcpom, really all these editing mistakes they are doing recently is really not helping their case either.

Capcom just needs to get their heads out of their ass and release stuff like Megaman Legends 3, Ace Attorney Investigations 2, and confirm the US release of Professor Layton vs Ace Attorney. These games might not sell fantastically like this pile of crap but it shows the consumers that Capcom is actually listening to them and not only caring about draining their wallets.

It was decent. No worse than alpha protocal which had its fair share of flaws and craptastic controls but the concept was worth the play through. Everyone wants to play as umbrella and everyone wants something more than a fps.

I hoped the game would be like MGO (metal gear online) but sadly capcom isn't as dedicated as konami. I say its worth a play through but don't buy it for 60 bucks. Its a renter....

Just because metacrap and payed under the table video games websites says that the game is bad it really is bad? Cmon, I have played good review games and I dont like them, and and played bad review games and found them fun. This game is not perfect but is not bad, have a lot of issues, but still fun. Dont expect survival horror, if youre looking for that, youre wasting your money. People should try this game, maybe it doesnt worth 60 bucks, but worth give it a try.
