Operation Raccoon City Proves Gamers will Buy Anything with a Familiar Name |
Listed in: News Tags: operation raccoon city, resident evil
If you swing by Metacritic and check out Resident Evil: Operation Raccoon City, you’ll see that the game isn’t exactly a fan favorite. It’s also not a critical darling—the game has a 52 average from reviewers and a 5.2 from users. While it’s unclear how the game would have performed if released under a different name (my guess is poorly), the Resident Evil brand helped skyrocket this turd up the charts.

Since its release in March, ORC has moved 1.7 million copies. And while that may not sound like much, it’s enough to make the game Capcom’s 25th bestselling of all time. Operation Raccoon City moved more copies than the arguably more anticipated Street Fighter X Tekken, which managed only 1.4 million sales in roughly the same timeframe. Bearing in mind that the game has only been out for just over a month, it’s safe to assume it will continue adding to its sales tally for a few more weeks.
It isn’t all good news for Capcom, however—the developer/publisher has seen a 16 percent dip in sales from last year, with operating income and net income both sinking as well. Capcom is banking on “high growth potential content,” whatever that means, and Resident Evil 6 to help turn the tides.
Let this be a lesson to all of you would-be developers out there: If you make a shitty game, just buy the rights to a popular franchise. Problem solved.

Still the game is rubbish, I did say that the moment it was announced as Capcom always fails at team based games (oh don't you dare get me started on the team AI on every game they make)and seem to concentrate on graphics more than making the entire game fun...
Everyone is asking them to go back to Resident Evil 1 % 2 gameplay like the remakes they did on the Gamecube but it is clear Capcom is no longer caring about its customers wants, they are only concerned about making their wallets fatter, hence why Megaman Legends 3 will never came out...

Capcom just needs to get their heads out of their ass and release stuff like Megaman Legends 3, Ace Attorney Investigations 2, and confirm the US release of Professor Layton vs Ace Attorney. These games might not sell fantastically like this pile of crap but it shows the consumers that Capcom is actually listening to them and not only caring about draining their wallets.

I hoped the game would be like MGO (metal gear online) but sadly capcom isn't as dedicated as konami. I say its worth a play through but don't buy it for 60 bucks. Its a renter....
