OnLive: Our tech can work on Sony, Microsoft consoles |
Listed in: News Tags: Microsoft, news, onlive, Sony

OnLive's cloud-based gaming service may be the wave of the future (according to some people, anyway), but the company bejind it has yet to secure a foothold on one of gaming's biggest market shares: console games. Even that may be a thing of the past, as OnLive has apparently been talking to Sony and Microsoft about integrating their service into the two companies' home consoles.
Absolutely, they would make great consoles," OnLive's VP of Engineering, Joe Bentley, told gaming news site CVG. "Our controller is a hybrid between a PS3 controller and an Xbox controller. It's all compatible, it would just work. There are OnLive guys chatting [Sony and MS], but we'll see where it goes. But it would absolutely work, we're ready to work with everybody.
"The reason mobile gaming has taken off is because you can occupy your time at the bus stop or whatever," he added. "The limitations of those games, though, are that the entertainment only goes so far. Why compromise that experience? L.A. Noire is a fabulous, wonderful story and you could sit there for weeks exploring it in different ways. Why not be able to take that with you and continue the story? It's like a good book."
The controller that Bentley is talking about allows gamers to wirelessly connect to OnLive's servers through tablet devices and select TVs. OnLive demoed their controller earlier this month at E3 2011.

The minimum they require is 3mbps, but still not every ISP offers this much in every single country, or the price is too high.
I've tried OnLive and liked it really much, BUT... I prefer my physical games.

Onlive is good for single player games, but should not be used for competitive multiplayer.
Also, this is never going to happen.
