Unless you’ve been living under a rock or don’t give a crap about politics, you probably know that election time is right around the corner.  Hell, even I know that, and I hate politics.  Well, if you were unaware that the election was so close, some President Obama ads embedded in certain games have been added to give you a political wakeup call.

If you’re like me, you’ve probably been getting political survey telemarketing calls at home or on your cell.  You’ve probably also seen tons of presidential campaign ads while watching TV.  Yeah, it’s a pain in the ass, but it’s expected during this time every four years.  One place where you probably wouldn’t expect to be bothered, however, is while you’re gaming.

That has apparently changed, as ads for President Obama have been spotted by gamers in vital battleground states, such as Colorado, Iowa, Ohio, Nevada, New Hampshire, and Virginia while playing certain Electronic Arts titles, including mobile versions of Battleship, Scrabble, and Tetris, plus Madden NFL 13.  The ads have also popped up on the Pogo.com gaming site.

As annoying as these ads may be (aren’t they all?), you can’t deny that they represent a smart strategic move as Obama targets a younger demographic.

Have you come across any of these ads?

Eh. We already have ads for soda and snacks, might as well do the whole package.
