No Final Fantasy VII Remakes Until Square Enix Stops Ruining Final Fantasy |
Listed in: News Tags: Final Fantasy, final fantasy vii, Square Enix, Yoichi Wada
Final Fantasy VII is widely considered, by people with more nostalgia than common sense, to be the best Final Fantasy game ever made. And because people would much rather relive old triumphs than boldly go where no gamer has gone before, fans have been clamoring for a FFVII remake for what seems like forever.

Well, it’s not going to happen. Why, you ask? According to Square Enix CEO Yoichi Wada, it’s because the studio has failed to surpass VII with any subsequent Final Fantasy release. Essentially, Wada said something that boils down to “We’ll remake VII when we make a game that’s better than VII. If we remake VII now, the franchise is effectively dead.”
That’s not a direct quote, just a translation of a translation. But the basic gist is this: Square Enix doesn’t want to go back to the well and remake a good game if it’s not capable of making good games from scratch. Makes sense to this writer—it’s not like the last few Final Fantasy games have been genre-defining experiences.
So, if you’re waiting for a Final Fantasy VII remake, now you have a rough idea of how long it will take. Square Enix won’t do it until they make a better Final Fantasy game, which will likely never happen (according to fans). Which puts Final Fantasy VII HD’s release date at “a few months after never.”
Congratulations!

In my opinion, FFIV, FFVI, FFVIII, and FFX were all better than FFVII though, and the only ones that were bad were FFXIII(and XIII-2) and FFXIV.

But I thought VIII and XI and XII and XIII all are crap.

Maybe in some weird twist, remaking FFVII would remind them how to make FF.
They need to focus less on graphics and more on story line, characters and reoccurring elements. Imagine if they created a Chocobo as a playable character who in an event you could save or fail and watch die from a Chocobo Eater. Imagine if they developed a side love story with Ifrit and Shiva - knowing they could not be together because of their elements. It almost has to be anime-like where you grow on the characters and their relationships while you watch their connected struggle.
Throw in a joke a two; break the forth wall and a Star Wars reference (I'm talking to you Biggs and Wedge) and you've got yourself an awesome FF game.

Leveling with the fans for a minute I feel Square never gives themselves any kind of break on that series. I personally would love to see a few oft-forgotten games of theirs make a comeback like the Chrono series, Vagrant Story, a new Threads of Fate, Romancing Saga, a new Mana game, Secret of Evermore, maybe a Bahamut Lagoon game, Bushido Blade (think how that would look on modern consoles

I don't really see how some people can like one Final Fantasy and hate the others (although that is their opinion)since in essence Final Fantasy has always been about the idea of trying new ideas in an RPG

I think the majority of the people who are "absolutely in love" with it are the ones making hacks for it.

have you ever tried beating all the secret boss in FF7? to me that's what made it an excellent game, the amount of effort just to get knights of the round and a gold chocobo.
you're just looking at graphics that's why you'll never understand it, try beating all secret boss and let's see if you'll still call it crap.
graphics wise the best looking game on PS1 was legend of dragoon, FF8 and chrono cross

"it was one of the best looking games."
Bullshit. There were much better looking games at the time.
"you're just looking at graphics"
False. Go back and read my comment again. I specifically mentioned two other things.

10 was a little flaky, I was able to enjoy it purely because of the storyline and new ps2 artwork, gameplay not so much.
10-2 = WTF and 13 = idiot who helped make 10 didn't even once look back and try to learn from mistakes in 10.
12, amazing tech demo, felt like the engine should have been for the ps3 not ps2, crap/no story, before its time.
Online games 11 and 14 (14 especially) were total pants, everyone told SE to scrap 14 when playing the beta, it was beyond hope, idiots for trying to make it for a console that had 256MB of video ram.
Basically, it all went down hill on the ps2. They need to go back to basics, there's no shame in that.

Here's hoping for 13 vs (which they should call 15 to break away from the reputation).
