New PSN User Agreements Going Out Today |
Listed in: News Tags: PlayStation Network, psn, psn tos, sen, sony entertainment network

If you are a PlayStation Network member, then you have probably received an email in your inbox about the new Terms of Use and User Agreement that go along with Sony's decision to change the name of the PSN to the Sony Entertainment Network, or SEN. If you haven't checked your email or won't until after you sign into the PSN (or SEN...whatever), you'll be prompted to agree to the User Agreement, etc. if you want to continue using the network.
The email also explicitly states, "The re-branding of PlayStation Network accounts to Sony Entertainment Network accounts is a change in name only. Your username and password will not change, nor are we asking you to change them. On Sony Computer Entertainment's PlayStation 3 and PlayStation Vita systems, this re-branding will occur in connection with software updates for these services. (Note, this change will not be applied to the PSP (PlayStation Portable) system at this time.)
They like them some parentheses.
The slight changes to the Terms of Use are minor; things like covering Sony's butt when a minor uses the network, new content and "What's New" information, and the fact that your account is now called a Sony Entertainment Network account.
It's mostly legal gobbledygook and we all saw it coming, but it sure seems like it got here awfully quick.

I remember back in the day there was this one company who in their TOS had one line at the very end that said something along the lines that the first person to mail them saying they had read their TOS would get 500 bucks (I think it was more..). It was only years later that someone had sent them a letter asking for their money.
I doubt there is a line in there giving out money, but
the point is that you should probably at least skim the TOS seeing how you already spent the money for a ps3...just saying

what your describing contradicts your point. the fact that YOU just described that sony will pursue legal action against people who violate their terms is the exact opposite of a scare tactic.
you just dont like sony.

let's review you points again:
1. cant sue sony
--we've already agreed that you can still sue sony. the fact that it is harder to do doesn't mean you can't
2. TOS=scare tactic
--it's not a scare tactic because sony is ready to take anyone to court.
"You think including a clause saying you not allowed to sue them is ever gonna stand up in court?"
vs.
"because first you have to prove that part of the agreement is illegal and only then can you get round to bringing action against them"
so will it hold up in court? if the answer is 'no', then why would anyone be afraid to take it to court?
