There is a certain type of person that eagerly anticipates the release of sports-themed games, and this niche is particularly tight when it comes to Major League Baseball. The two primary vehicles for this very specific type of pleasure have long been been Sony’s MLB: THE Show and 2K’s MLB 2K franchise, with only the latter being available on the Xbox 360 console.

With news that 2K’s deal with MLB was “sunsetting” in 2013, gamers and baseball fans had been left to wonder if a new MLB 2K game would ever see release (and, in turn, wondering if the Xbox would ever get another baseball game). After all, the franchise is a notorious money-loser for the studio and is regularly outshone by the superior-but-PS3-exclusive The Show. If you’re sitting around, staring at your Xbox and wishing to the stars for the return of MLB, your pain ends today—2K has announced that MLB 2K13 will launch on both PS3 and Xbox on March 5.

Visual Concepts, the same studio that’s made every MLB 2K game since 2K9, will oversee development. Oh, and the “Million Dollar” perfect game challenge will return. Let’s hope they run it a bit less stupidly this time around.
