It looks like we're gonna have to wait a bit longer for Max Payne's next gritty adventures.

Previously rumored for a December release date, Rockstar Games announced today that Max Payne 3 will arrive on the PS3, Xbox 360 and PC in March 2012 in North America and Europe.
“Max Payne 3 gave us an amazing creative opportunity to evolve one of our most iconic characters,” said Sam Houser, Founder of Rockstar Games. “We’re excited to show fans a modern version of Max that pulls them back into his dark and twisted story.”
Developed by a handful of Rockstar Games’ global development teams, the game features Rockstar’s brand new Rockstar Advanced Game Engine, which promises to deliver "seamless, cinematic action experience" that results to "highly-refined gameplay, with an extensive range of realistic weaponry, an intelligent cover system" and a more sophisticated signature bullet-time mechanics.
Aside from its expansive single-player campaign, Max Payne 3 will also include a diverse multiplayer, a deep reward and leveling system, persistent clans and multiple strategic load-out options. The game has been in development for quite some time now, hopefully it will be worth all the wait.
