Mathieulh: So much for 'unhackable' PS3s

Mathieulh has found something in the Firmware 3.56 update released for the PlayStation 3, and you bet it's going to be making the PS3 community abuzz with excitement.

Apparently, the ever-reliable homebrew developer-slash-hacker has found an exploit in the said firmware. That's all he's willing to report, though, as he said he has no plans whatsoever to delve into the details of his discovery.

Said Mathieulh, Mathieu Hervais in real life, over at his Twitter account, "I hesitated a lot before tweeting about it, but a bug alows exploiting metldr, the bootloader and 3.56+. I don't intent to ever unveil it. So much for 'unhackable' PS3s though... I am not giving any further details about it. Sorry."

Sounds like he doesn't want to get involved with Sony's whole lawsuit-happy phase. Well, if you're keen and determined enough, those items that he mentioned should be clues enough for you to find it yourself.

If you're hacking your own property, no it isn't. The DMCA specifically says that if you reverse engineer software and decrypt it to produce other compatible software, it isn't copyright infringement in any way.
Nothing he has done was illegal. And pegging him with ruining the PSN can't be blamed on him since he didn't hold COD hackers at gunpoint forcing them to mod their consoles. Therefore, all charges are bogus. Look into it instead of speaking out your ass.

but thats the point. Hacking his own system is fine under law. but then releasing the hack is where it goes from legally safe to a greyer area.
So no - its not black and white, bogus charges. And its not like hes some shining bastion of free speech. Hes trying to play the freedom fighter card that "he should be allowed to do anything with his property" . Yes he should. But he didnt. He released the published the code (and is now taking money from the situation - "for legal fees"...).

Say what you will, but hes not exactly the brave freedom fighter he pretends to be. Hes a sad little hacker that tried to slip by a grey area in law, and now stands a chance of being called up on it.

I realise the internet is full of 12 yr olds who think they're involved in some sort of revolution but its not one. its just spoiling things for the majority

there is no real justification to hack the ps3 all it does is cause problems like those cheating cunts.

The CoD hacks were around well before Geohot released his find. I find it hilarious that people are willing to essentially give away their property rights because other people are cheating when playing with their toys.

Wait, did I say hilarious? I meant that I'm disgusted by these people. If you're not willing to make sacrifices to protect your rights (if you can call losing when playing with your toys a sacrifice), you don't deserve them, you childish ****.

3.) There's TONS of justification. Like what if I want to play a certain media type, like let's say ... MKV on my PS3 listen to music AND play games at the same time, like the 360? Or even the aforementioned Linux. Hell, what if I wanna just play some damned pong?

And oh yeah, Call of Duty says hello. People were cheating on it long before PS3s were hacked.

4.) Oh, I'm glad we ALL have THOUSANDS of dollars, like you, the rich faggot, to go blow on a "fucking PC" or a "new phone". (Btw, you're a moron. Most "new phones" require some kind of jailbreaking or hacking to do what we wanna do on PS3, or are flat-out incapable of doing so.)

amount i paid i might aswell of got a new pc, sony exploit the market yet expect full control of my console. they have been told by the courts to re-impliment linux yet where is it? they choose to sue ppl that are doing what they should be an they should be the ones taken to court. geohot gave everyone to use the ps3 as it should be, unrestricted...... even when linux was their sony tried to control it.

I had hacking lessons at university... seriously, it was a network security class. It's easier to protect yourself if you how you're going to be attacked.

Saying that hacking is illegal is as stupid as saying that shooting a gun is illegal. It depends on what you're doing.

Apparently you are uniformed. It's called levels within security of the firmware. I know there's only 1 3.56fw but as there are level 2 upgrade on cfw then there's also level 2 on fw.

not updated as such. if someone includes the lv2 key in a CFW, then programmers can use functions protected by lv2 security.
apparently they've dumped lv2 security in 3.60 and added lv0.2.

Mathieulh has done alot of homebrew works especially on the PSP. He know what he is doing more than those who support GeoHotz. The guy was a complete ass and still is. Especially when he "promised" at one point to release the CFW to allow Linux back on the PS3. You wanna talk about BS, this guy is a BIG BS-er.

It's not about being immature, its about the so called elite hacker Mathieu, who is happy to just sit back and claim he's done all this hacking on the PS3 yet never, not once released anything or even helped other hackers and share his knowledge.

Saying he is scared of getting of being sued by Sony is a valid excuse NOW, but before Geo got done there was no excuse.

He sits in on his IRC channel and brags and brags and brags. But not one ounce of proof has been shown.

When the scene really got going, and CFW's and stuff came out, even if it didn't enable piracy, he would just sit there telling them they were doing it wrong.

when the first batch of PS3's got bricked, again he just sat there going "I knew that would happen", but offered no recourse or help.

He has proven nothing to the majority of the scene except that he comes across as a wannabe, maybe he should put his money where his mouth is and prove he is this elite hacker he thinks he is.

1.)No major reason to release (waiting for new features from Sony in a newer FW)
2.)It's not ready (Hasn't made it "user friendly yet)
3.)Doesn't condone piracy and want to find a way to properly secure the hack against it.

the 3.60 update has been released and kakarotoks revealed on twitter it resecures the console it removes all the loaders and bypasses metldr rendering it unused and there for useless
