Mafia III is Happening, Apparently (Updated) |

Update: 2K Games has responded to the rumors and claims it is not working with Rockstar on any upcoming titles. The company also noted that it has no plans announced a Mafia II follow-up, a strange wording indeed.
Rumors abound regarding a potential follow-up to 2010’s Mafia II, especially after 2K Czech reportedly showed up at Microsoft’s top-secret “Durango” presentation in London. The source on that story also reported that 2K Czech is already in development mode on Mafia III after spending around a year in pre-production.

Oh, and if that’s not enough rumor mill for you, this anonymous source also reported that 2K Czech is doing a bit of work on Rockstar’s Grand Theft Auto V. The company is supposedly helping Rockstar with cutscene and gameplay animation, and has been doing so for months. The source goes on to mention that Rockstar is helping 2K Czech as well, by sharing development tips and other helpful information.
Naturally, this is all unconfirmed rumor at the moment. Rockstar, Take-Two (Mafia’s publisher) and 2K Czech have all yet to comment on the issue. But this is the games industry we’re talking about—sequels keep coming until no one buys them, and Mafia II had a pretty strong record.
What do you think Rockstar and 2K Czech are up to?
