Activision is, by far, the most successful games publisher of 2012. But that doesn’t mean there isn’t fat to trim in the company’s ranks—it has just laid off 30 people at a variety of studios. The move is the result of Activision trying to focus less on licensed properties and more on its own games.

Here’s a spokesperson doing the speaking thing:

“In 2013, we expect to release fewer games based on license properties and as a result are realigning our structure to better reflect the market opportunities and our slate. Approximately, 30 full-time employees have been impacted globally, which represents approximately one half of one percent of Activision Blizzard’s employee population.”

Activision also cut back on staff at Treyarch, noting that they don’t need as many people to work on Call of Duty DLC as they did to actually build the game.

High Moon is the developer. Activision is the publisher.
