Outspoken Playstation developer David Jaffe believes that Sony has a big competitor in Apple.

"Look at the iPhone you're holding right now," Jaffe said in an interview with GamingUnion. "Here's what I think... Anyone reading this knows I'm loyal to Sony. Not that I don't like Microsoft, I do but Sony has always been good to me. So I want to preface what I'm about to say, because I don't want people to think I'm bashing them. I will work with Sony as long as they will have me, but they have an uphill climb - this entire industry has an uphill climb now - because of the iPhone and the iPad. Unless we as an industry get to cloud computing and gaming sooner rather than later, I think we'll have to get used to a noticeably smaller piece of the overall pie."

"I think a large number of people are satisfied with the cheaper, downloadable gaming experiences on their phones. Even if you're talking PlayStation Suite, so I'm not saying Sony doesn't have some of that pie," he continued. "People always have their phones with them, because they're a one-shop device. That means traditional [console / handheld] games have to be so much better in order to get enough people away from their phone to game. I think that's why you see less games [at E3], because publishers have to put so much money into the games they do make to compete at that high level. [The iPhone] is such a **** disruptor. It will be an interesting thing to watch over the next couple of years."

See what Jaffe had to say about Wii U.

Im really opposed to cloud gaming as it sucks if you dont have an internet connection, you cant trade your games witha friends , and you can't sell them if you no longer want them. As for these little stupid games on the phone i really dont see how thats hurting the gaming industry because people who sit there and play those games usually never owned a system and when they eventually get tired of these stupid games the most likely will get a console like the wii which similar games can be played. Also games now a days are over priced be serious we are all humans were goin to look for the better deal.

The point being made is a little different. mobile gaming has moved to the iPhone/Android because they are ever present. mobile gaming here has been successful because of cloud distribution but more importantly a cutthroat open Market which has forced the price down.

Sony are planning to release a device with the same processor as the iPhone 5 but whose games will be £40 RRP as opposed to £1.50. if a game is >£1 it is going to have to be cloud distributed if it is >10 pounds most are going to want physical media so it can be traded, swapped with friends etc

The Market is changing but until prices drop dramatically IMO games shops & physical media are going to be around forever. imagine spending £45 on home front and finishing it in less time than the first 2 levels of angry birds then finding you could not trade it back  .

IMO (typed on my iPad, having just got my ass handed to my by demon souls again, gonna go listen to stitcher on my iPhone to relax ;-)

when they say games are NOW over priced.

I'm not very old myself but even I remember when games would cost upwards of $90 each. Not all of them did but they didn't have the set prices like now.

I don't like it when developers succumb to this. Yes the idea of playing games on your phone is great... but THEY'RE SOOOOO BAAAADDDD compared to real games. Yes angry birds sells millions, but that doesnt mean that those people buying it are all potential gamers you can convert to better systems and such.

I have an android phone, I do play games on it, but it's such a short time waste of a platform when compared to an actual gaming system. At least with SOny's new Vita they're implementing such tech to allow solid CORE games while also allowing for the world of time-wasters to be able to port over well with it's touch screen.

That said, a 15 y/o girl with her iphone who just on a whim purchases angry birds - isn't necessarily going to branch off and turn to core gaming because of it.

The market is growing and you're going to have different factions of gamers. Real gamers and those who spend $.99 on a time-waster where you fling birds at pigs.

quite frankly i agree so many console games are utter crap and ive paid $60 dollars for them which leaves a bad taste in my mouth. now on my android phone i can get many free or dollar games that i spend less time playing on consoles. there never going to beat free.

yea there no were near the quality of console games but free or a dollar doesnt bother me at all but paying 60 for a game thats utter crap does.

I dunno, most of my gaming these days is played on the iPad. There are TONS of awesome games out for it. Games that cost pennies on the dollar compared to consoles.

For example, I've been having a blast playing Jack of all Tribes and the game cost me $4.

Something that ticks me off a little are the games on the Nintendo shop. WTF is up with those prices!? $10 for a game that would be $1 anywhere else? $10 for a game that used to be FREE on a website?

I can have way more fun on my iPad for close to no money (for games) and it's all thanks to my having paid $600 for the unit and there is NO LICENSING and NO BS RESTRICTIONS against who can and who can not code on it.
